The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I've had my Gateway desktop for EIGHT years, which I think is very old in computer years. These past few months it's dramatically slowed down so I know it's time to be proactive and get something new before this one just dies. I considered updating it but when I looked into it, I couldn't even find the upgrades for it because it was so old and outdated.

Some things I really want are a big screen, I'd say 17", I like being able to do a lot at once and see different screens side by side. I'm a multitasker to fault. I want it to be easy to carry and reasonably lightweight. I really want one with long battery time so that I don't have to always have it plugged in if I want to go somewhere and use it. The main reason I'll be using it is for school, I'm attending grad school online so I need something really reliable and easy to use!!

I know a lot of people love Mac computers but I don't want to make the switch so PC advice would be great!! I know a lot of people love Dells, but I have a hard time jumping on that ship. When I was graduating HS I got a Dell Laptop as a gift. After not even a year the hinge in the screen broke and they wanted $900 to fix it, and that was with a warranty. Complete rip off!! That is when I just switched over and got the desktop!

HELP! Advice is much appreciated!!

I have an HP Pavillion Widescreen and I love it. It's been really reliable and the screen is awesome for me to watch movies and such in addition to computer stuff.
I also have an HP Pavilion laptop. I love love LOVE it. I had a Compaq (the screen died after a year and a half), then a Sony Vaio (the power cord ended up having issues and there were some issues with the keyboard) and now I have my HP and I'll never go back to anything else as long as I stick with a PC!

The one thing I'll point out is that generally you give up some battery power to have a lighter computer. Plus, if you're multi-tasking it will use the battery faster. Since you want the larger screen, you may want to lean toward the slightly heavier computer (still not crazy heavy though) in order to get the screen size and battery power you're looking for.
I would suggest a Mac, but my HP Pavillion served me really well through university too. Depends on what you are looking to use it for :)
Does anyone have any suggestions to save money. Should I just go to a store like Best Buy or should I go to the companies websites?
Some places offer student discounts, I know Apple definitely does. It doesn't hurt to ask. I would try and compare prices online and visit some stores. Some stores will match the lowest price. It's worth trying.
I have no idea on the saving money thing... I was one of the lunatics in line at Best Buy at 3:30 am on Black Friday to get mine.
I have a brand new HP Pavilion dm3 laptop with Windows 7 I'm looking to sell. Never opened, still sealed in original box.

I already have 2 other laptops and don't need this one. So I'm hoping to get $650 or BO out of it. Let me know if you're interested and I can send you more details/specs on it.
I have had MACs and HP'S desktops and laptops. I've had incredibly good luck with HP, as has my family.
I like Costco because they often offer coupons for a hundred off here or there and they give a routine two year warrenty standard on computers electronics.
Over the years, I had a Dell Inspiron 1100, IBM Thinkpad T41, Lenovo Thinkpad T60, Lenovo Thinkpad T61 and Lenovo Thinkpad T500. I LOVE my Thinkpad.

The reason why I have so much is because of 2 different jobs. I love the durability of a Thinkpad. I have dropped it from 4 feet and nothing has happened to it. It has a gravity sensor, so when you drop it, it turns the hard drive off so it doesn't get damaged. You can pour water on the keyboards and there are drain holes. They have an aluminum alloy frame body that prevents the motherboard from bending and also protects the LCD screen upto 150 lbs, so it doesn't crack.
I would go for a HP or a Compaq. I've heard Acers's last well too. I had a bad experience with my dell latop (now completely unfiixable, less than a year old!) And stating the obvious, mac's ARE very well made computers :)
