Hi there :)
Hi, I am new to this blogging thing and was wondering how you get traffic to your site? I seem to be writing to the world and no one is listening. Any advice?

There are a couple good threads here that have been started in the past about how to drive traffic to your site. So anything I say on this would just be repetitive. I suggest searching the forums and you should come up with many different ways to develop a reader base for your blog.

(In other words, being active on blogging communities, and with other bloggers, is one of the best ways to do it.)

Find blogs you like to read and start commenting and involve yourself in their blogs in hopes they will find you equally as compelling and return.
It is wasteful in my opinion to start following blogs you really don't like just to to get readers, and takes too much energy, so take your time, there really is no rush.
I think the longer it takes (within reason) the more likely your readers will stick around, you want readers who want to read you whether or not you are commenting on their blogs or not.

also - don't be annoying. seriously. MANY of the top blogs out there today, didn't really have to "try" to get famous - take http://dooce.com - you don't see her commenting other people's blogs, social networking, etc. & she supports her family on the revenue she makes from her blog.
you have to realize that your own talent is just as important as everything else - just like in any other art/hobby/etc.
