How are you doing in the job market? Any tips for those looking for work?

The economy is especially important for people our age, some of us are still in school, while others have been in the job market for a while. I was wondering if anyone had some tips they would like to share with me about how they got a job in this terrible economy/jobless job market.

Any tips, hints or websites would be helpful. I will then take the suggestions and list your blogs as collaborators for my new job hints. Check out my blog: http://daraonthehunt.blogspot.com/ to see what the concept/premise of the blog is.

Thanks for the advice! I'm definitely going to sign up and see how it goes! I'll link you on my blog for recommending this website! I really appreciate it!
I'm lucky enough to have a full time job right now, but last year I lost my design job in Raleigh and was forced to move back home to Erie, PA. The job market is rough and I'm planning to move again after the first of the year. I need out of this city... there isn't too much here in terms of culture, night life, jobs. I've been told to network as much as possible! Get out there and meet people. Also take internships if that is all you can get, even if they're unpaid and you have to work part time jobs somewhere else. It's all about getting your foot in the door and who you know.
I know how you feel with the moving. I'm back at home with my parents right now desperately trying to get a job so I can move out for the mental and emotional well being of our family. My dad has been laid off also, so it's him and I in the house all day and we didn't really get along well to begin with! Luckily I live on the Jersey Shore so I'm just getting a cheap winter rental until May and then try to move to D.C.

I've heard the networking advice also and the internship advice. Right now I have so little money that even that is stretch. My plan is to try to save up enough to support myself for 2-3 months in D.C. without a full time job and try to intern/work until something pans out. That's where I want to be and I've heard that unless you have an address in the city you want to work in or a TON of work experience, people don't want to bother with waiting for you to relocate.

Thanks so much for your advice!
After college I really really wanted to move to North Carolina.... No real reason, just broke up with my bf of 3 years and was looking for a change. I applied for jobs for about 5/6 months and nothing. So finally I just picked up and moved there. I had a friend from high school who let me stay with her. And wouldn't you know, within 2 weeks of moving there and having an NC address I had a job. So yep, it's true. If you don't want to move somewhere without a job, then see if someone you know in the area will allow you to use their address.
Believe in yourself, believe in yourself, believe in yourself. You can do it!

I'm trying my luck at the world of online marketing.. making money online through various avenues.. hubpages. affiliate marketing..trying to be "location independent". haven't quite started yet but i'll let you know how that goes... i'm moving abroad in 2010 and just got fired. i need enough money to hold me over for two months so i thought the online business venture would be a great time to experiment w/ while i'm living in a asia; cheap cost of living. basically, i'm tired of coming to work/looking for work. i want work to come to ME. so i'm going to market myself. i'm my own market/business/etc. :)

(..we'll see)
