The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Hi all!

I loved the conversation we had over at last month's question about what your blogging goal for the month was. Mine was to write a post everyday, and well, I ended up only writing five. ARGH.

So this month's question:

How do you get out of a blog rut? Maybe you can't find the ideas, energy, or time to post. Or maybe you don't like where you blog's theme has wound up. What do you do?

Hum...

Just go with the flow?

If you haven't got anything to write; don't write.

Personally (as a blog reader), I can't stand the slew of viral/meme-type blog posts that some people obviously use to 'give something to their readers'. There are many, many successful bloggers that only blog once a week, twice a week (or less!) -- and when they finally post, those that follow their blog leap ravenously onto the new, fresh content1

Not to mention, it's likely to be better/fresher/well-written if you don't feel the NEED to CHURN something out.

Or perhaps get a camera and work on something other than writing. Post a picture every day. That's relatively innocuous, and fun!
I think the key to this is getting out. If you don't get out and experience life, what are you going to have to blog about? Not everyone encounters something interesting every day. Unless you have a themed blog and you're making money off of your daily posts, you shouldn't worry about quantity.... focus on quality.

Jot down some ideas but don't publish. Come back another day and add more. Continue until you are satisfied.

Don't worry about fitting your blog's theme. Readers are always interested in something fresh.
If I have nothing to say, then I usually just take a few days off. I love to blog, so I never stay away for more than a few days. If I have things to say, but am having a hard time writing, then I usually just push through and try to write anyway.
Sometimes I just need a break. When I'm feeling uninspired, I don't try to force it. I think that it is kind of obvious when people do force it or try to hard.

Just go with it. Take some time away from the computer. Get out and do stuff. Read some books. Write some ideas I might have down for the future. And when the ideas start flowing again and I'm ready to elaborate, I'll pick it back up and start writing again.

Or if you're not happy with your blog at all, maybe make a new one. Or delete old entries or make them private. Sometimes a fresh start is good!
If I can't find something to write about, I read others post, until I find something that inspires me or sparks an idea. Most the time it works, but if not, I have done everything from change my layout, bought a new domian, etc...

I have just learned to accept that sometimes it just doesn't want to come lol! I would really like to blog everyday for a month though, that would awesome.
i go out more, i talk to friends more. just go out and look for inspiration
I agree that if you just don't have anything to say that it's best not to just flood your blog with useless Youtube clips and the like. But sometimes I feel like I have a lot to say, but the words just won't come. Or I'll worry about if it's really within the theme of my blog. Or sometimes I just get lazy. I'm having a hard time figuring out why, since I love my little blog!
Echoing what someone else said further up: don't think the theme matters *too* much, unless you've explicitly stated (or implicitly implied) that you will never deviate from a certain path/area (a wedding/pregnancy blog for example).

I don't do it often, but I find taking notes can also speed up writing an awful lot. If I am travelling, I just jot notes down on a pad. When it comes to writing, the words then come very easily.
