20 Something Bloggers

The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Hey guys,

I've seen many helpful discussions here on 20SB and the enthusiasm and responses of all the members is just so helpful and over whelming at times. I'm so happy I found this group in the initial stages of blogging. I get to learn something new and interact with some fabulous bloggers every time I spend some time here on 20SB.

I was just hoping if the members here could suggest different tactics which could help me to get my users to comment on my posts. Just in case if you'd like to know more about my technique of writing or about my blog, please click here.

Could you please give me a few suggestions or share your ideas which have helped you to create a strong faithful reader base and which has also resulted in a large number of comments being posted at the of your post.

i open my blog up for discussions. so when people comment, i make a point to comment back individually. this keeps more 'conversation' and interest going.. then you'll have people coming back and hopefully more readers. i will also comment on their blogs regularly. anyway, that's pretty much it. also, asking questions in your blog entries to acknowledge the reader directly. makes your post more engaging... write about topics that a lot of people can relate to.. etc.
I try to do just the same except asking open ended questions or otherwise in my posts because I use my blog as a medium to recommend various movies, music albums, websites etc. I do make a mention to my readers to give me feedback in my posts wherever possible.

I've also started replying back to every comment personally as you mentioned. Thanks for your help. Appreciate the same.

Manish :)
The majority of my comments come from my friends -- people I know in real life... I'm getting a few people who respond that I don't know.. and like floreta, I try engaging them.

I'm trying to become better at commenting on others' blogs. I feel the more I do so, the more likely they might do the same. That, and it is possible for others to find your blog via comments you left somewhere else. I actually found some interesting blogs that way.

A lot of it just takes time.
Well it helps to know that the comments on your post are mostly within your friend circle.

I always try to mention to my readers to visit again to read more recommendations on my blog in my comment replies. I'm yet to see the effect of the same in the readership and frequency of new comments on my blog.

Thanks for your help

in my experience, people will comment when they feel like they have something to say. you can't force them to comment. i'm not going to leave just some lame ass comment just because. i leave comments because i actually have something to say; whether it's a compliment or something to add to the post
I only just recently opened comments on mine, and this is something I'm dealing with, too. What I've realized is people will comment if they have something to say. So just keep up your blogging and the comments will come. Some posts will have none, some may have a lot. What's funny is the ones I EXPECT big comments on.. get nothing. And other ones get a handful. Weird. I'm no where near the major comment #s some people have, but keep in mind you are blogging for YOU not to get comments.
LOL... Debi I have to agree... It happens with me as well.. Well I surely don't blog to see comments. I just feel it's a great way to communicate and interact with your readers. So that you get to know how can you improve your posts. My blog is all about recommendations which I like, but my readers would return only if they like my recommendations. Accordingly, getting comments becomes important for a blog like mine.

Thanks for your help. Wish you all the luck with your blog and comments.

Manish :)
Thanks Tristan. I believe my reply to Debi would've to be copy pated for your reply as well. Your reply is actually my reply to Debi's. With regards to asking open ended questions to instigate people to give in their responses as I said would not be possible for my blog since it's mainly abut my recommendations.

Thanks & Wish you all the luck with your blog.

Manish :)
I would seek out other blogs in same general blog genre as yours, and be a vigilant commenter. I will always check out the blogs of people who comment on mine, and will usually leave comments as well. It also helps to ask opinion, and respond to as many comments as possible, to open up a dialogue.

Commenting in other blogs is also the best way to direct traffic to your site, besides being lucky enough to be linked on an enormously popular blog.
Thanks for your insight Vanessa. I try to do this, but I've to admit, trying to visit blogs of all the readers who leave their comments sounds like a difficult task.

I wish your blog keeps getting new traffic which keep revisiting all the time.

Thanks.

I think these days I comment less because I read so much from feeds. Write stuff people can comment on, stating facts and such doesn't really encourage commenting. If you have time check out the blog of the commenter do so, but don't get carried away, you don't have to comment on blogs or posts you have no interest in, that is a time waster, but do comment on posts which interest you at blogs which you think you would like to read routinely, scroll some blogs too and find some you like and would read regularly and start commenting when you find something you want to comment on.

I wouldn't go as far as saying reading blogs which are in your own genre, I think that is a big mistake unless you are seriously so small as to think the only people who have anything worth saying are those with blogs like you. Look around and read some blogs you like no matte which genre, try to post things people can respond to one way or another if it is comments you are looking for. I think there is something to be said for just blogging what you want though, because if you are blogging just for comments I imagine it could get pretty tedious.
I just went to your blog and a good chunk of links are "links-for-cash". I'm not against people monetizing off their blog. However, correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel that you're trying to direct traffic to your blog by your general posts (like this one) so you can capitalize.
