So I'm just getting into the 20-something blogging network, and of course I'm discovering so many blogs I want to read. Some are on Wordpress, so I can subscribe to those. But many aren't. I book mark some, but there are literally dozens I wanna keep up with.
About how many blogs do you read? And how do you managed to keep up with them?
I have this browser called flock. It's made for social networking and stuff. Every time a blog I follow is updated I get this orange flashy thing on my toolbar. It also does this when one of my friends writes me on facebook, or when i get an email, or when a flickr contact adds some new photos. It's very extensive and somewhat overwhelming but I like it.
Google Reader all the way. I won't use Blogger to follow blogs because I don't like the format. And Google Reader is much more discreet for reading at work. :)
I used to do my feed-reading with Thunderbird (I'm a huge Thunderbird fan overall), but I run the nightly builds and RSS seems to be the one component of Thunderbird I continually have problems with.
I swapped everything over into Google Reader (I'm also a Google nut), and I've been happy there ever since. I have an application for my (Windows Mobile-based) phone that syncs up with Reader so the changes I make at one end are reflected in the other. The suggestions for other feeds to read based on what you currently watch and the sharing features kind of give it a social reading feel, which (in my opinion) is awesome.
If neither of those float your boat, I can vouch for a few of the apps on this list (assuming you're running Windows, of course).
Google reader is great. You can actually also use igoogle as well, its a different format. Netvibes is another option similar to igoogle in format. On Scribnia, you're recommended new bloggers to read, and you can subscribe to their feed right on the site.
-Dailies: these are the blogs I read every single day, no exceptions. one general news blogs, the blogs of my closest friends, my company blog, and a few others.
-Priority 2: the blogs I find interesting but not important in the scheme of things. I open the folder when I feel like being entertained or stimulated, and know there's going to be something good in there, but I have no deadline or schedule for reading.
-Categories: one folder for each big "genre" of blogs I read. One for 20-somethings, one for Japan blogs, one for industry blogs, one for college blogs. If one of the blogs in these folders gets to the point where I don't want to go a day without missing it, it moves to "dailies." If you're not on top of your stuff, you could potentially create more category folders than you need, so I'd say start with no more than four or five.
I like this idea of using folders. I have 3 folders currently, which are in a similar set-up to yours. I would think the more I tried to read, the more descriptive I would want the folders to be.
I have quite a lot of blogs which I have found through this website and I tend to read them through google reader as it picks up newest posts and you can put them into folders, so I got the blogs I follow all the time, ones that are following me and ones that found through here and read them when I can.
