The Bloggers With The Most To Say

How much time would you give an average blogger to capture your attention enough for your to return back to their blog? Is one post enough to make you decide either way?

Does bad grammar/spelling or an ugly layout prevent you from even giving them a shot?

Having started blogging since 2004 I am committed to a lot of blogs already. Consequently I do not have time to wait out someone's bad blinding design. It's also unlikely that I would have anything in common with someone who doesn't at least attempt to use proper grammar and spelling - though random misspellings and overlooked grammar aren't going to keep me away from someone who is charms me some other way.
"random misspellings and overlooked grammar aren't going to keep me away from someone who is charms me some other way."

agreed. a typo here and there won't keep me away.
Love this. Agreed with the exception of if a layout prevents me from being able to read a post.
I agree with you to an extent.

But as a a multimedia student I've learnt that you don't taste the cake to decide if you want to buy it.

You decide if you want to taste it by looking at it, then you taste it if it looks palatable, & then you buy it.

Also, chances are you're going to want to taste the prettiest cake first.

A lot of the time a blog might have crummy content, but a great layout, or it may have really great content with a crummy layout. But I think the majority of readers who aren't bloggers themselves will more than likely judge the blog based on its layout before giving the content a go.

Kind of unfortunate, but quite true.

I too, like you, read a blog before I make my judgements though--but I think that's because I blog too myself & have a different sort of appreciation for it.
Only a few posts. If it's not hiliarious or on a topic I find highly interesting, I won't follow it.
Those flashing oranges or yellows sometimes just aren't worth getting through. Id say get some readers hooked before you go insane with your design. Once the readers are there they aren't likely to leave because of the design unless it is totally impossible to read the text, or some flashing lights give them migraines.
usually about 2seconds... LOL... If they dont have a layout/background then I dont like it. I like bloggers who have backgrounds. I change mine all the time...

My Blog
Pretty much right away. If I like the way they write, and I feel compelled to comment, I'll add them to my google reader. If I don't, I'll forgot to visit.

Bad grammar/spelling - maybe. Ugly layout... I can't say that I've actually come across one!
Do you find yourself checking those that allow you to use the Google Reader/Friend Connect more often?
Google reader, yes, because I check my google reader almost every day. I haven't figured out how to use Friend Connect, so even tho I have a few blogs that I "follow" like that, I don't get it. Lol!
No. I try to implement that stuff that makes browsing content simpler but ultimately I just come back to, "I want to visit so-and-so's blog."
have you ever read the book "blink" ?

"meeting a blog" is like meeting a person. The first impression counts and I usually decide within .5 minutes.

I also admit to being a pretty judgmental person in general though...it may be different for someone else ;)
