How much time would you give an average blogger to capture your attention enough for your to return back to their blog? Is one post enough to make you decide either way?
Does bad grammar/spelling or an ugly layout prevent you from even giving them a shot?
I can usually decide pretty quickly, but sometimes I'll add a blogger to my Reader and read a few posts and then decide. And that's the beauty of Google Reader. You can add as many as you want. I like to organize mine into folders/categories such as "Favorites" or "Fashion" or "News & Info" etc. And layouts don't mean anything to me since I do read everything in my reader, so you just see the post, not all the other stuff. Typically I get really turned off by poor grammar and spelling, but there are a few awesome blogs that I love enough to ignore the language errors.
I keep a continuous Word document open that has a string of disjointed ideas that eventually birth into a blog. The document is currently 43 pages long. If you read it from beginning to end, you would probably give it a failing grade.
I pull ideas from that document and write the initial blog post. Then I table it for a few days and return to it. Sometimes I do a little editing for clarity and then publish. Sometimes I trash it.
It is a vicious cycle. If I'm committed, maybe 2 hours a week.
I like blogs that are black. I don't know what it is about color, but it plays a big part in me reading a blog. If the background color is black, I can't read it anymore. My mind just goes into auto pilot. But if you have a blog with bright colors, or a white background, I'll be more inclined to read the blog.
