The Bloggers With The Most To Say
Have you ever had to "come out" about something that you were afraid would be met with disapproval? This could mean everything from announcing you are gay to letting your parents know you want to live with your boyfriend even though it goes against their belief system. Or maybe you had to tell people about an unplanned pregnancy, or tell your racist grandmother you're dating a black guy. Whatever the case, I want to hear your stories. I want to know what approach you took, how long you waited to break the news, what sort of reaction you expected, and what reaction you actually got.
Just curious...

Permalink Reply by lalalalauren on February 17, 2012 at 2:50am I can relate to ALL of this. I've always felt weird talking about relationships with anyone in my family. I guess I'm naturally private about all of that stuff and they always want to ask questions when I bring stuff like that up, so it's just easiest not to. Which is how I get myself into strange predicaments...
Anyway, I also totally tried to hide my period from my mom when I was 12! So embarrassing... I'm glad to know I'm not the only one out there that's done that.
Permalink Reply by Allison on February 17, 2012 at 12:55pm I believe I stayed home from school the next day (after I told my mom) so I could get used to my new situation as a "woman." It's so awkward 'cause you still kinda want to play with Barbies, yet you're being told all this bullshit about being a woman now. Guys definitely don't have to tell their parents about puberty as their voices and smelliness tends to talk for them :P
Permalink Reply by lalalalauren on February 17, 2012 at 2:53pm Thanks so much for sharing your stories, you guys. It was cool reading these responses. I'll admit that there was more than just curiosity behind the start of this thread...I'm actually trying to figure out how to tell my parents (and the world in general) about something that they might see as weird, gross, and/or inappropriate. Anyway, it was encouraging to read about your experiences and see that in most "coming out" scenarios, the world doesn't actually end.
Good luck with your parents.
