Okay, I know everyone is feeling the strain of the holidays. And I'm trying to figure out ideas to give as gifts to my family that won't break the little bank I have left.
I was trying to think of something thoughtful, something that won't be thrown to the side and never used (or even better - regifted. Ha!)
What are your ideas?
I was told that giving an experience (Zoo Tickets, Dinner at a Great Place - etc.) were good ideas. But I can't wrap my head around it.
I've gotta figure out what to get for Grandparents, Parents, Fiance & Sister - Let's swap ideas! Sites, anything!
Grandparents: Grandparents usually have most of what they want/need, unless they have issues with money. Therefore, gifts from the heart are usually the best. Perhaps arrange for family/generational photos, then give them an 8 x 10, 10 x 13 or larger framed print as the gift. Or get them a grandparents' journal, that they can share their stories in. Or maybe just give them a gift of your time, if that's hard to come by. They also will usually enjoy homemade gifts, food gifts, gifts of comfort items (comfy slippers, cozy robe, bubbles, candles, etc).
Parents: Parents tend to be pretty close to grandparents in that they usually have a lot of what they want or need. However, with parents, you are more likely to have some wants unfulfilled... And some of their wants will tend to be more high-tech and expensive than grandparents' are. For instance, my mother-in-law wanted an automatic pepper mill. It was pretty pricey. With parents, I would say go out with them to the mall or their favorite store and look at some of the things they eye. That would give you a good idea, because parents are hard to pin unless you know them. Again, you really can't go wrong with the homemade gifts, food gifts, or comfort items, here. Just buy their favorite flavor/scent... Or if you have a talent such as knitting, cooking, sewing, music, etc.... Make them a gift with that:)
Fiance: Now this will depend on the kind of guy your fiance is... I listed some gift ideas below, and one include gift ideas for guys.
Sister: This will depend on how old your sister is. If she's a teen, she'd probably enjoy getting a CD of her favorite band's newest album (unless she already has it), almost any high-tech item, or a makeover. (There's also a list for teens below) If she's in her 20's, she'd probably enjoy similar items, but I'd also add jewelry to that list. If she's in her 30's, she's probably got a family and might enjoy a night of babysitting or pampering as well. If she's in her 40's or older, I'd add some of those same gift items you were looking at for Mom and Dad. Of course, you can't go wrong with anything that shares your sisterly bond, jewelry, or something she loves that's hard to find. I remember once my grandmother looked all over Oklahoma to find me peppermint ice cream. I knew it was hard to find... So it was the best gift:)

I ran a piece on my blog last week with gift ideas based on personality types. Each type has 5 gift ideas, ordered from inexpensive to costly. I did some research though so I could offer up unique ideas.
I do most of my shopping in the Amazon Marketplace. You get stuff for way cheaper in there. Some of it is brand new, or in such good condition that it seems new, but it's for a fraction of the regular cost (i.e. some DVDs I want that typically go for $20 are as low as $2 in the Marketplace). I also love:
This year I am making donations for my parents. I specialized them. For example, my dad sells seed for a living, so I made a donation in his name to purchase seeds for families in 3rd world countries.
