You'll LOVE it!! Paris is so beautiful. I love it there and have only been once! I stayed near the Arc de Triomphe as well. Fantastic location! There are a ton of restaurants and inexpensive cafes on the Champs (within walking distance). Oh and there's a Metro stop there too - so easy to get around. You might want to buy a carnet (book of 10 metro tickets - 12 euro a book) if you plan to take the Metro everywhere (like I did, and it was awesome). Paris is expensive though, so it can get tough on low funds. Here are a few things I would suggest:

- Champs-Elysees for (window) shopping
- Eiffel Tower. It's pretty impressive just from the ground and the lines to go up are a nightmare during the summer, so don't feel disappointed if you choose not to ride to the top. (I think it's 13 euro for that)
- Museums! My favorite is the Musee d'Orsay but of course the Louvre is incredible. So many to see...
- A boat ride on the Seine River. <-- definitely a must.
- The Arc de Triomphe lit up at night. So beautiful
- Oh and don't give money to the gypsies.

OK...this is a bit long! Haha. You can read one of my post about my first trip there last summer here: Paris Je T'Aime

I have a list of everything we did and it was definitely on a budget! ^_^ I know you'll have a lot of fun!
wow just read the blog entry i have my book out noting down all these things, thank you so much! x
Sacre Coeur and Montmartre, amazing area. Fantastic place to just walk around, lots to look at.
ooh! i really agree. and you can go to the cafe from the movie "amelie" there. we did... and it was really fun! i'll be blogging about it in the next couple of days. check out my blog for more!

Buy a city pass like this one: http://museumpass.tourpackagers.fr/detail1.aspx?ID=371. Unless you are a student which garners you free entry to museums.

Also buy a transport pass: http://museumpass.tourpackagers.fr/00019/Paris-Visite-Pass-Unlimite.... Makes it much easier to get around.

Make sure to see a menu with prices BEFORE sitting down, if you are going to eat out. Some places trick you with a soda being 10$ US. Also eat at local markets and bakeries, the prices are usually cheaper.

Ask the hotel if they have any sightseeing specials or discounts on local attractions. If not, ask them if they will refer you to a local tourist office or travel agency.

It depends on how long you are planning your break for, though.
montmarte is amazing and my favorite district in paris. if you climb the stairs you get a nice view of the city. also splurge and get some french macaroons at la duree because they are life changing.
haha I will definitely be indulge in french macaroons! x
ahhhhhhh i miss paris! i just love hanging out in the parcs if you need something low cost... or like having a treat on the seine! also the musee d'orsay is one of my favourites and i think pretty low cost, i am also kind of oddly in love with notre dame so spending time there is always cool! have a great time!!
I'm lazy, so just going to point you to this MASSIVE post I did on my four days in Paris. Check it out if you're interested
i don't know if you'll be as blown away as I was, but if I had to recommend one thing to see in Paris it would be Sainte Chapelle. When I stepped inside I didn't know what to expect but it's like... I don't know - it's just awesome. Those windows that go on forever, the ceiling that looks star-spangled. It's like being inside a genie's lamp.

I can't wait to go back so that I can get photographs of it. I was actually awestruck. Then again I have a soft spot for gothic architecture (lah-di-daaa) so maybe you wouldn't be as impressed.

Go have a look if you have the time though. It's my favourite place in Paris by far.
Sainte-Chapelle is GORGEOUS. I'm glad I had to chance to see it. I was talking to a chap and he said it's the number one underrated attraction in Paris.
I have a book on Paris that I've marked with little post it notes and this will definitely be added! I love beautiful interiors. I once went to a Spanish church that was built into a rockface, so wonderful! x
