me, me, me!

Although I'm getting the impression a lot of people don't know about it yet, which is strange.

Every year around the end of spring/beginning of summer I read "The Stand" by stephen king - which is basically about the flu wiping out most of the population. This year I think I'm skipping it.
Nope.

I mean, I know some people have died from it, but the media is overhyping this as always.
Nope. I live not too far from the "New York Epicenter" High School (my boyfriend's alma mater) but honestly? I can't worry about this kind of shit. I wash my hands, try not to get sneezed on in the subway and just keep doing my thing.
I think there's good reason to be cautions but at the same time I think there is such a thing as being too informed. with all the technology we have now a days its easier for people to be misinformed. The last thing the world needs is another reason to turn violent.
No, not really despite spending a lot of time in Miami at the airport last week. I've thought about buying some stock in the pharmaceutical companies responsible for making these vaccines though.

I should ad this is probably one of the better places to go for information, Effect Measure
I'm with David.

not at all. people freak out about all the wrong kinds of things.
remember Y2K?
it's kind of like that.
get a grip people.
I'm not terribly worried.
Though, I will say I am surprised there haven't been cases in Chicago just because of our airports...

Anyone else remember SARS? We go through cycles of diseases that they say will wipe us out...

Like David, T, and Floreta have said, most of this is all media hype. Yeah, we should indeed keep our eye on this... but when you watch the news you can tell as they talk to various experts that they're trying to make this out to be a bigger problem than it currently is.
its freaking me out. My latest blog highlights my fears and how the media is causing panic.

Its scary that it is tipped to be a bigger pandemic then the 1918 outbreak that took over 20 million lives.... now thats freaky
I'm not. I'm kind of irritated by the whole thing. The only thing I'm worried about is this over-panic ruining my vacation next week (not to Mexico, but still have to go on a plane).

If you think about it there are six billion people in the world and maybe 200 have the swine flu. More people have much more serious diseases.
I understand where you're coming from, but have you read or heard the news lately? Because the last update I heard was 1,400 people infected and over 100 dead.
CDC and World Health Organization as of yesterday (world) and today at 6am (US) report:

US: 64 cases, no deaths
Mexico: 26 cases, 7 deaths
Canada: 6 cases, no deaths
Spain: 1 case, no deaths

" WHO advises no restriction of regular travel or closure of borders. It is considered prudent for people who are ill to delay international travel and for people developing symptoms following international travel to seek medical attention, in line with guidance from national authorities.

There is also no risk of infection from this virus from consumption of well-cooked pork and pork products. Individuals are advised to wash hands thoroughly with soap and water on a regular basis and should seek medical attention if they develop any symptoms of influenza-like illness. "

No need to FREAK OUT like people seem to be doing....
Not in the least bit.
