The Bloggers With The Most To Say

When it came time to design my blog page (The Diary of the Short, Fat Cyclops), I went for something that I felt comfortable looking at. Let's face it - I have to look at my blog more than anyone else. I found a theme I really liked and adapted it to my needs and liking. I changed the graphics here and there and then added in my own personal touches. I did all of this... and then I looked at the blogs of others. :/

Is it just me or do most people have whimsical, almost retro looking themes to their blogs? Is this what people like to see? Is my darker and more... professional looking blog a turn off to readers?

EDIT: I have completely redesigned the page as well as migrated from Blogger to a self-hosted Wordpress. I have edited the links in this discussion to reflect this.

The new website is better although I feel it's still kind of plain. I hope to fix this soon. What do y'all think of the new site? (ShortFatCyclops.com)

My fault, I was clicking the share not the subscribe.

I think my point was that as only 34 percent of blogs are on blogger
and the rest are on some other platform, often bloggers like to put their url and name in and sometime do not bother to comment if they have to do it via open url - a lot of people either don't have, or don't want, to use open url.

Even if they have a google account they may just prefer to be able to sign their name and link to their blog. I for instance have a blogger profile but my blog is not on blogger any longer, so most people I comment on - on blogger- have it set up so I can do either the google if I'm lazy or my name and url. I'm only saying this because new readers who are not on blogger sometimes take this as a slight or find it annoying and don't comment. You'd have to set your comments to accept anonymous comments though and I understand that some don't like to do this.
I had the option to post anonymously... until this morning. It's one thing to object yourself to the commentary of quite literally the world. It's another to object yourself to anonymous ridicule. But that's just my opinion. I know others don't feel that way. But I find I am too apt to take even anonymous comments to heart and I'm just not of the emotional capacity to handle being called fat or being told I'm a horrible person by people who don't even have the decency to make known who they are. lol

So for now, that option is turned of. It's just my preference. I like comments, but they aren't especially important to me right now.
I think a blog design should represent the blogger. I will say though that the light text on a dark background is usually a turn off for me. But that is easily rectified by reading through Google Reader if I really enjoy the content.
I think it will be best if it fits your personality. People can read through fake. Even in blogs.
Agree with the others! If you like it, keep it. Personally when reading blogs I don't take much notice of the theme (unless the text is very hard to read). Choose something you like and keep it :) There are so many themes that people use, from simple to really creative and it's simply up to the individual. A lot of people read posts via readers now so to those individuals the theme would not be an issue.
Hey all! Thanks once again for all of the feedback. I have finally gotten around to the redesign of my page. The beginning of the discussion has since been edited. So tell me... what do you think of the changes?
