The Bloggers With The Most To Say

A few months ago I changed the whole theme and direction of my blog and now I want to change my URL to match it. The URL I want is available through blogspot but I remember it being a hassle when I switched mine over the summer (spelling error). I only have about 50 followers and little to no readers so I don't see this as being a pain to other people. One thing I said to myself is that when I hit 100 posts (I'm at 98) I would register my own URL through google so I don't think it would be a fun thing for the two people that read my blog to have to change it twice in such a short period of time.

My questions are - is it worth paying for the URL? The price is not an issue, its $10 a year but do you find that your blog gets more traffic? Is more professional? etc… Also, if you refuse to have your own, why? Also, is there an easier way to do this so I don't lose any readers? AND if you have Intense Debate for your comments, do you need to change the links for that as well?

Thank you, ALL feedback is appreciated!

when you say followers do you mean google connect, or do you mean subscribers via RSS?
Google connect. I guess I don't have that many followers then lol.
sorry, but it's true. Google connect is like an incentive for other people to follow you. If they follow you and you follow them, it'll look like both of them have a large amount of readers, but a lot of people don't go through google connect reconnecting with their favorite blogs. That's what RSS feeds and google reader is for.

If you wanted a more accurate idea of who follows your blog you would get something like feedburner. The only incentive someone would get from "subscribing" to your blog is an easier way to read your posts. Which means they read what you write.

I plan on getting a URL, I don't know which one yet. I plan on writing ebooks and stuff.
I dunno... the dot com that goes with my blog is five hundred bucks. For me, it's soooooooo not worth it. I've made about $21 in Google ad clicks, so I really don't see the $500 paying off anytime soon...
woah $500? why so much?

I think it's worth it. It's easier for people to remember your url and to me it feels more "professional". Mine only costs me about $10 a year and my hosting is cheap too.
Do you host it through blogspot/google?
It's a popular topic. I can get the dot info for cheaper, but then I just would feel dumb.
I think from a branding perspective, yes its important. If that's what you want to do. If you're just blogging for fun and to interact with the community, I wouldn't think that creating a URL unique to your site is that much of a big deal ... but for $10 a year, why not? If you're fully engaged and continue to post and comment on other blogs, why not build your brand?

my 2 cents,

I've thought about it a lot but if you google my name it comes right up and that's not my url.....so i think if someone really wants to find you if they forgot the url because blogspot is after it...i say make sure your settings are all correct and you have everything set up so people will find you....i have several people look up my blog name and find it no problem....then they type some of my url and find it....:) right at this point i don't care to change it:) good luck
