The announcement is still going on, but of course the news is all over Gizmodo, Engadget, etc. What do you all think!?

VERY disappointed. All the hype but underwhelmed when I saw it (TWSS)
I'm quite underwhelmed. I hate to say it's a bigger version of the iPhone, but it is. Sure, it runs some cool programs and the Brushes app kind of makes me drool, but it's not a must-have tech item. It's just another way for Apple to squeeze money out of us (this say by an Apple fangirl.)

And I wish tech companies would stop thinking that I want to read books on a screen. I happen to love books and won't be buying a kindle anytime soon. Stop using that as a selling point. Gr.

In conclusion, I'm on the fence. I haven't heard or seen anything yet that makes me scream "OMG I NEED TO HAVE THIS!"
I would say it's more of the iTouch on steroids.

Also, I'm curious how the "reading screen" does for ebooks in direct sunlight.
iTouch on steroids. I like it.

Also? If I have to hear one more feminine product joke I just might scream...
I'm curious too. I have a Kindle and like it a lot as far as the e-ink being easy on the eyes.
I'm loving it, but I'm not fond of the price difference between the WiFi versus WiFi/3G versions.

I picture this as going everywhere with me, in place of my Kindle and Franklin Planner combo that I carry with me every day now. It has a USB port (yes?) so I can picture taking this with me everywhere so I can offload my camera or FlipHD cam and immediately update my Flickr/Vimeo/blog/etc. anywhere that there's wifi or 3G. Then transfer that stuff to my main machine (or TimeCapsule?) when I get home.

As a content creator, I think that's exciting. I like the portability of it. But I'm also one of those people who can't STAND to UNPLUG. Ever. ;-) It's an illness
Chances are I will end up owning one. My Macbook is crapping out and I'd much rather spend $5-600 than $1000.
My MacBook Pro is several revisions old, and has a much-dented case, though still going strong (*knock on wood*) but I'm not sure this could replace a MB/MBP. Though it depends what you need it for. For instance, I don't forsee being able to run Photoshop on the iPad and even the 64GB version would never hold enough photos/music for me -- but if you just want it for blogging and checking e-mail, that would probably work. (Particularly if you get the keyboard/dock accessory.)
I have two laptops (nerd.) So while I'd be replacing my MB, my MBP is still going strong. I couldn't rely solely on the iPad.
Oh I bet a MBP/iPad combo would work then!
Not very impressed.

And HATE the name.

In the words of some chick on Twitter: "iPad: this time you'll sit your mother down for the awkward conversation on how to use it." (apologies to whoever didn't want another feminine product joke, but seriously... doesn't apple have any women working over there? how can you not make that connection? Marketing fail.)
I am quite surprised that they went with this name. I'd be curious to hear from Apple employees about it...
