The Bloggers With The Most To Say

How often do you check your email?

Do you have a separate one for work, etc.?

I'm just curious because it seems like certain people expect a reply within, like, hours, if not one day. I just don't involve myself in email that often--I feel like there can't be anything urgent enough to need a reply super quickly.

However, a supervisor on a project I'm working on called my mobile to ask if everything was okay, because he sent me an email Monday and I hadn't responded.

I obviously felt quite bad about this!

But...I mean, really? Is this the world we're living in? Am I behind the times?

I do check my personal email a bit more often than my others, but even then, people act like I'm being incredibly rude by not replying immediately. (People regularly verbalize this to me!)

So I'm wondering if I missed something...how often do you check yours?

I currently use 2 email addresses. One for my personal emails+blogs+social networking+online communities and groups+miscellaneous and I've just started using yet another email address which keeps me updated with my RSS feed subscriptions (I'm not as comfortable with RSS Readers as I'm with emails). I had access to yet another email address which was strictly used for work purposes provided by the company which no longer exists since I'm not working anymore. But then, that email address was ONLY for work.

Email has changed the way I communicate and stay in touch with my contacts in more ways than one. I check my emails multiple times a day, my computer is on and connected to the net 24*7, so you can imagine :). I reply to my mails depending on priority (sometimes as instantly as less than a minute). The way I see it, emails are going to be as essential as a cell phone. They already are in my life. After using emails as extensively as I do, I hate to send a text message in spite of having a cellphone which is enabled with a QWERTY keypad. I'd rather reply to an email. I must also confess, I feel uncomfortable if I haven't checked my email for a few hours.
I don't really check emails that often before, it's usually filled with spams.

I used to tell people to text me when they send me email so i can open it :P bad huh?:P
YES i love this reply

hah I thought I was the only one...I rather loathe email, and since I don't really have a job, I don't have any truly pressing reason to attend to it supa often--at least I didn't think so!

Anyway I'm glad I'm not the only rebel without a cause ;-)
If you're at work, you should leave Outlook (or whatever e-mail you use) open all day. That way when a message comes in, you can reply ASAP. It's kind of the norm, especially if it's an e-mail from your boss!

So yeah, you better jump on board the e-mail world.
haha it wasn't my BOSS per se...

but you're right, I suppose I have to let go of my idea that email interferes with my qi, how sad!
Well, I check all five of my active accounts every given moment just to see what's going on, but it takes me a couple of days to respond if I can't think of an answer right away.

Because I deal with literally hundreds of emails from all different parts of my life. Sh!t is crazy over here.
Haha, it sounds like it!
I have a university email and a general email address, which the university mail gets forwarded to - and I check it every day, a couple of times a day. Sometimes I get lazy about replying to emails, but I always try to get it done that day or early the next day.
I have a separate work e-mail as well as several personal e-mails. I check my e-mail way too often during the week because I'm constantly at the computer or on my Crackberry.

On the weekends I check it less because I try to detox. As much as possible.

I think you check yours a bit less than others do. Sometimes that's a good thing, but in this instance it's a bad thing. You should probably check it at least once a day if not more often.
This may be sad to say but I actually check my email probably about every 10 minutes while I'm work. I HAVE to check it when I'm here though or people will get aggrivated. By doing this I think I've come to expect that when I email someone I should get a reply within the same day, which is sometimes unrealistic since normal people have different schedules than me! lol

On the weekends/holidays I barely check my emails! Which keeps me super busy on Mondays! :)
The first thing I do when I log on at work is open up my gmail account and my hotmail account. They stay open all day.

I love gmail because I can add multiple addresses to my one main account and then just use the one account to monitor the 4 addresses I use from gmail. Everything gets forwarded there, so when someone sends me blog-mail (or leaves a comment) it comes up right next to my work e-mail.

That being said, I have a work address, an online shopping/bullshit address (hotmail), an online dating address, the "real" address and the blog address. This is why I refuse to go to the dark side and own a crackberry. I'd be inundated with e-mail when nothing is so important that it can't be check between my working hours.

Some jobs need it and others don't at all. It's the easiest way to send little notes because you have a record and it's quick.
I have my e-mail up at work all day so if I get mail it notifies me automatically, so it's not really an issue of 'checking' my mail since I leave it up all day :P
