The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I'm planning an overland trip from London to Brisbane early next year. 7 months covering about 30 countries. I'm still planning at the moment, so ideas/suggestions are most welcome. The basic plan is South of France> Italy> Greece> Turkey> Russia> Mongolia> China> SE Asia> Australia.

Don't do it in a Beetle, that's all I can say. I've a friend who attempted it, and she had to give up just past Turkey due to the engine going!

Otherwise good luck! It's certainly something on my bucket list :D
4 months... 120 days... 30 countries. 4 days per country?!

You can spend 4 months in just one country, let alone 30 of them. And driving the entire way? You'll be spending at least 1/3 of the time on the road. Not sure why you want to spread yourself so thin.

Read this, I wrote it awhile ago. Rushing through a trip won't be worth it.
Taking It Easy While Backpacking
I'm definitely not driving, I'm relying on public transport (a lot of overnight trains). Although as I said, I'm still planning at the moment - so the current route is all the places I want to see, but I realistically I probably won't make them all.

Some of those countries I'll only spend a day passing through, but some I will spend a week. This is as more about having an adventure, seeing if I can do it than it is about sight-seeing. But I have budgeted 4 months as a minimum, and actually, I have no time-scale at all... I can continue to travel until my money runs out.

Thanks for the feedback, though - this is exactly why I started this thread
Sounds like fun! What a trip. Good luck, will make for some interesting reading in your blog.
I'm from Brisbane! This sounds like such a cool trip, I'd love to do something like this! :)
I just spent five traveling overland through Africa. I got through 8 countries and I still felt like I was rushing and not getting the most out of every place. I have to tell you, your plan sounds awesome but way too ambitious. I'd try to cut it down.
Thanks for your feedback... The more I look and plan the trip, the more I think the same. I'll just have to extend it =D
That sounds fantastic! I am so jealous. I am from the U.S. and really want to go to England to study abroad my junior year in college (a year and a half away!). Problem is I don't have the money :(

You will have a blast! Which place are you looking forward to most? Definitely going to read about your travels!

I'm looking forward to so many parts - island hopping in Croatia and the Greek Islands, the beautiful St Petersburg in Russia, cruising through SE Asia. I think the best part is just the adventure - I know where I want to go, but no idea how I am going to get there or what is going to happen along the way. And travelling through less touristed countries like Albania, Moldova, Kosovo, Belarus, Latvia, Estonia etc.
This is the kind of adventure I've been wanting all my life! Yes, it will be rushed. Yes, relying on some many external factors has its downs. But the adventure...gosh, the memories will last forever - no matter what happens during the trip. I'm a firm believer that it's the Journey that counts ultimately, not the destination! Take me with you?? ;)
YES! Exactly. You are cordially invited :)
Wow sounds cool. I have often thought about doing this. Hitch-hiking across Europe as far as Russia then hopping on the trans-siberian or trans-mongolian from Moscow all the way to Beijing. Then seperate trains across china down to South east asia and hitch a ride on a boat from Malaysia or Indonesia. Have you looked up seat61.com?? It's a totally awesome resource for travelling by train or even travel in general. Findacrew.net is great for getting a lift across oceans!! I agree with the others posters though, you should give it at least 6 months IMO, ideally even longer so not to rush it!!
Sounds asweome though!! :)
