Long Distance Relationships
Bree & I have been dating for 4 years, we live 100km apart (Hamilton-Toronto). Reason being that we goto different universities. I love her more today than I've ever loved her. Do you have a story? What is or was your experience with distance?

In college, I was in a similar situation. Dated a guy that went to a different university in a town far, far away. Of course we missed seeing each other every day, like most couples; but I'm so happy to be living in this day and age where technology helps us deal with the distance a lot easier. We would chat or skype or text - so we definitely stayed in touch.
Also, I do believe in college - it is a little easier. We were able to arrange our class schedules similarly so we'd be able to travel and spend time together over the weekends and things like that. It was nice because we missed each other so much that when we finally got to see one another, it was like vacations and holidays and presents and sunshine all mixed into one amazingly glorious feeling. So I totally get what you mean about how you feel about your lady.
I think my relationship ultimately ended because we started off our relationship long distance. We never dated in a more traditional sense. The early stages of a relationship (i.e. when you are totally infatuated with one another and never want to be separated) are quite difficult long distance.

I've been with my boyfriend for about 3 1/2 years and since we've been together we've never lived in the same city and for the first 3 years we lived on opposite sides of the country. It's been SO difficult but even more rewarding! And we both deal with the distance differently. We skype a lot because neither of us are very good at the phone.
I write him tons of letters when I miss him in a journal I keep, and plan to give it to him someday.
I have tons of story's and have learned a lot from the distance and although it's difficult I wouldn't have had our relationship go any other way.

I did it for 9 months, but now we are in the same place.
It was hard but kept the desire to want each other and hot reunions when we did see each other! I felt like if it wasn't going to end soon though then we would have to break up. It was too hard.
But now that we are together all the time, its a really different dynamic. I feel less desired by him than before. Not that he treats me bad, its just different.
Do you ever think that the distance is what is keeping you guys together?

I've had a couple of long distance relationships, but both failed miserably because of external factors, not so much because the affection wasn't there or we got bored with each other.
I wouldn't generalize though, and say that it's something that could never work.
I mean, mine came before proper internet connections, webcams, skype, camera phones, etc.
So going out of your way to find a phone box to call Switzerland, or England, or whatever for a 30 seconds conversation that would cost you a fortune...well, that was a huge turn off. Not to mention, I was also much younger, so in no way able to make the long trips by train to go and see him often. Let's just say, keeping in touch was harder than it is these days. Distances were actual dstances, unlike now, when a cam can practically make you feel like you're in the same room together..
Other than this kind of practical problems, I think when there's real love, respect, honesty, and of course Trust, it's worth taking the risk! Good luck! :)

I had similar experiences.
One was with my ex, I was going to school close to home, and he was in NY. It was easy at first, we'd talk through AIM and facebook. But, it started going bad after a while. We dated again when we both were back in the same city, but the distance issue messed us up. Now he's one of my best friends.
The other was with the person I'm currently with. But, it was more of him dumping me because "it was too hard". I think we just work better when we're in the same place.
I admire people who can make long distant relationships work. A girl who lived in the same dorm as me my freshman year had been dating her boyfriend since high school, and they're still going strong and are about to get married.

This is really sweet, and I love those photos. Its rare that you find someone who can stand the test of a long-distance relationship. Kudos :)
I've never been in a long distance relationship, and nor and I likely to be. I'd doubt anyone would wait any length of time for me.
Not that I'm not worth it, but I don't think I attract men who are the 'steadfastly loyal' type.

Awww...yeah my honey lives in houston, texas. I live in South Africa. I cant afford to fly up much and he's scared to come here because of the riots/cholera outbreaks/violent crime/political situation/my father threatening to kill him. Pansy. Well, it's been OK for 8 months thus far, we get on well. I know two couples who've dated like that and both are happily married today. I think you communicate a lot better when you are far apart.
I know people say long distance never works out. You show them different.

I've been dating my boyfriend for about 3 years. We've been long distance the whole time. He's from Oregon (my family has a house in Bend, Oregon, which is how I met him) and I live in Washington. We go to different schools, but luckily we've never gone longer than a month without seeing one another. Currently, he has an internship in Portland- which is only about 2 hours from where I live so we've seen each other every weekend! Soon I'll be headed back to school for my senior year, then after that we plan on moving in together wherever he finds a job. And I'll be working on applying to grad schools. Well that's the plan anyway. :)

When I was dating/engaged we lived 700 miles apart, between Bloomington, IL and Atlanta, GA. After we got engaged, we didn't see each other for 5 months other than on skype. We dated LD for about a year and then she moved in with me.
But now once again we're looking at moving, but dependent on whose job moves first, one of us will be moving to San DIego while the other remains in Chicago. Not looking forward to this...

I never really considered myself to have been in a long distance relationship before. But I guess if Hamilton to Toronto is long distance then I must have been. I was dating a girl in Toronto with me living in Burlington. I never thought about it as long distance though, more like a pain of a drive/train journey.
