The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I'm starting a travel tips series on my blog and I'm looking for any tips you guys have for other 20 somethings. I want to show people that traveling is totally possible, even if they are on a budget. My experiences focus mainly on Europe, but I'm really looking for any tips you have (doesn't need to be country/region specific).

To give you an idea, here is my first post in the series: Hotel Hunting.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Just got back from a business trip...

- Always register for the points/rewards programs... amtrak, hotels, etc.
- Roll clothing to pack more in a suitcase
- Bring plastic grocery bags for dirty clothes
- Ask the hotel concierge for recommendations for area restaurants, etc. if you're not familiar with the area
I was studying abroad in '02 for college in England and my friends and I toured Europe on a very tight budget: The most expensive thing we paid for was the startin plane flight to Madrid ($50 USD) and the Return flight from Rome ($30 USD). We got a Euro Rail Pass for specific 'zones' which is really western or eastern europe or the mediterranian, etc. We could get on the train when we wanted to. We went to Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Venice, Florence and Rome. We used hostels, and I can't remember the site we used but it was like travelocity for hostels and gave ratings, special deals, etc. We were students so we got student discount cards at our universities which gave us discounts on everything and made almost all museums free of charge. We hung out in Parks and tried to go to free cultural events whenever possible; there was always a free concert or dance or something in the cities we went to.

We ate at small cafe's or side stands, always eating local stuff because surprisingly things like McD's were more expensive than the local fare.

I think altogether for a 2 week vacation, I spent no more than $350 and I did go shopping in Paris on that budget. I think back on it now, but God, that was sweet deal! You can't do that now, of course with the economy and stuff, but still...those are the things we did to keep costs down.
I've done a lot of traveling in Central and South America. Let me know if I can help!
