20 Something Bloggers

The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I used to be super skinny & always thought 'If you're fat and you don't like it... work out!'

Well now I am realizing that it obviously isn't quite that easy! I have gained 40 pounds in 4 years (mostly since highschool) I would like to loose 20-25 & my blog has my real measurements, real photos and AMAZING support from my awesome followers.

I am posting this as hopefully inspiration for other people. I do understand it's not easy, I haven't made much progress but I am a real person :-)

I don't eat bad, but then again I don't excercize like I should.

What did you do to lose your unwanted weight?!! I am up for anything!

I just posted a loooong comment on your blog (sorry!) but one of the biggest changes for me was to eat less processed food. Like Jamie Oliver has been preaching, if it sounds like it came from NASA, don't eat it. If it came from your Gran's pantry, it's good. :)
I loved it! Thank you! It always nice to know that you aren't the only one who struggles. :-)
I second being a veggie, or better yet, vegan! You will lost weight without noticing...

another thing is honestly to take note of how much better you feel when eating healthy and exercising. our bodies were not meant for this nonsense that passes as food nor sedentary lifestyles! when i eat junk, i always feel lethargic etc. the next day and remember why i don't put that kind of yucky stuff into my body!

also finding workouts you really enjoy is important... remember that you can take it outside the gym... you don't need to have a spin instructor acting like he/she is on coke and telling you to "PUMP IT UP" to exercise. dance classes are fun :) or getting involved in sports... i have decided i am going to become an awesome surfer this summer so i have been extra motivated to work out more so i will be better at it. so having an activity for which you must be most fit is a good motivator too!

oh and the best of luck to you!!!! i give you so much credit, most people do not like to take ownership of their bad habits/health etc. and it is really cool that you are trying to inspire others!!!! will check out the blog!
I am vege and unless you are vegan it may not help you at all.

Lean meat has less fat and calories than pasta.

Rice, potato, bread, pasta are all starchy and hard to move from your body if you are struggling to loose weight.

That has been my personal experience. I had to stop eating anything white (unless it was a vegetable)
I have a friend that GAINED a ton of weight being a vegetarian. Just because you aren't eating meat doesn't mean you are eating healthy. Keep that i mind if you decide to do this.
agreed - some vegetarians certainly struggle with excess carbohydrates, and it is definitely most essential to be more mindful of nutrition as a vegetarian. it is a lot easier to have an imbalance of protein/fat/carbs without meat!

having said that - i do believe that being vegetarian is essentially healthier than eating meat due to health issues associated with animal fat intake - not to mention hormones given to animals, etc. but you definitely cannot eat a ton of pasta and pretend it is healthy either!

i also so agree that one should avoid anything white like it's your job... whether trying to lose weight or not. it like isn't even real food.
I don't think losing weight is easy for anyone. What works best for me is calorie counting. But, I don't restrict myself to an impossible number. If I keep my calories up around 1500, I can drop weight slowly but steadily. I can't just tell myself to start eating healthily. If I'm not watching my calories, I will usually still eat too many to lose weight.

Working out on top of that really helps. I usually go for high intensity cardio, like running, but I try to use weights as well.

I used to be crazier about weight loss when I was younger, but I have been more successful since I've started being more reasonable about it. I've found ways to not just succeed for a week, but to keep going until I reach goal. Not there yet, though.

Good luck! The blogosphere is a great place to find support. Do you know about In It To Gym It? You'll find a lot of 20sbers with the same goal there.
Hmm anxiety, depression, bad break ups, and aderol! Haha.. yeah I guess that is cheating but it works. Maybe a vegan diet would help... goveg.com- go there and watch the videos, it might alter your diet and help you loose weight. I believe it has helped me.
pharmaceuticals do help. ;)
I actually lost the most weight by going vegetarian. At my biggest I was 15 stone (thats 210lb I think), lost most of it quickly when I went veggie. I think a lot of that is from eating poor quality meat though, if you get more expensive cuts, and not junk like burgers and chicken nuggets, then you'll have a similar effect if that's what you consider a meat eating diet now (I did).

I also lost a lot when I started travel as my stomache wasn't used to strange food in addition to walking a lot rather than driving everywhere.

So I guess changing lifestlye has worked for me, rather than try and force a diet/calorie count and exercise in a boring manner. I've never got on with exercising to keep fit, but am happy to do things like cycle to work instead of drive as it serves purposes in addition to losing weight (save on fuel, don't have to sit in traffic getting annoyed, time it takes to arrive is more predictable to name a few).
See, I don't eat badly as is. I eat fresh fruit and veggies, never any fast food, don't drink soda, the only heavy carb I really eat is bread.

A friend of mine told me about the Atkins diet & said to use it as sort of a starting point. Has anyone else tried the Atkins diet?
Just be careful cutting anything out of your diet all together. Humans eat carbs for a reason - our bodies need them to function correctly. Cutting down on them and switching to whole grains will make a difference, but do not cut an entire food group out. High protein, high fibre, low sugar, focus on "good" fats and whole grains. That's what's made the difference for me.
