The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I'm assuming there are at least a few of you with memories like mine - i.e. that of a fish. Something happens in the day, I realise something, I want to write something but by the time I get back to my computer later in the day I've totally forgotten what it was and how I wanted to write it.

Any handy hints for improving your memory? Or at least remembering what you wanted to write whilst running around working all day?

You could keep a small notepad on you and write down keywords that will help you remember your thoughts from earlier in the day. Or, come up with some word association to help you remember. I was trying to remember a dream once and there was a spider in the dream, so I kept repeating spider in my head over and over along with other highlights from the dream, and that helped me remember parts of the dream.
I find that the good topics usually come back to me later in the day if I let them. All I need is to take a quiet walk by myself and the stuff that I really want to write about always bubbles up to the top of my brain.
You could look into using Evernote, either standalone (if you have an iPhone or Windows Mobile-powered smartphone, they have a native client for your phone) or with the help of Twitter (so you can send a quick SMS while you're out and about). This way, you can collect all of your ideas in one place and have them to search through, elaborate on, and hopefully turn into posts.

While this probably won't be valid in your particular case, I also recommend people look into ways of enabling post-by-mail for their blog. Assuming you have the control to be able to set such e-mailed posts as drafts/unpublished posts by default (for self-hosted WordPress, I recommend Postie), you can e-mail the ideas to your blog and have them show up right where you're going to write them. (As a side note, this also means that you can give the post address to a select number of people who may or may not have post ideas for you. The uses are entirely up to you, of course. ;) )

Of course, a notepad or voice recorder work just as well...
Thanks for the hints. Notepad I have and always carry but usually the ideas come when I'm away from my bag. Bizarre huh? Ah well, thanks for the ideas anyway. I'll try and remember to record things a little more helpfully in the future.
I have the exact same memory problem. My mom often thinks it's just me being lazy (aka when she asks me to do something and I literally forget a second later to do it... I REALLY DO forget!)
I've tried a couple things but being an organizational freak I've found that the most convenient & organized method is one of the following:
1. Carry a pocket calendar in your purse at all times. I literally put everything on it- from work schedule to what I'm doing with a friend on a given day
2. The more in-depth idea (for lack of a better term)... keep a to-do list. I've had some that get incredibly long but it's also very satisfying when you cross things off of it... Everytime someone asks you to do something for them just add it to the list. I often make one on a day to day basis so I know it needs to get done before I go to sleep, or something like that.

Hope that helps!
Hey M'liss. I do all those things too, for exactly the same reasons! I think it just gets most frustrating when I write a post in my head, down to specific wording here and there, and then I forget how I worded it and it just doesn't read as well later that night when I finally get to write it down.
