The Bloggers With The Most To Say

For those of you who moderate comments, is there a particular reason why? Or if you don't allow anonymous comments, is there a particular reason why? Lastly, would you ever/have you ever deleted comments (that weren't spam) on your blog?

Little back story: I don't moderate comments on my site and I do allow anonymous comments. I had an experience last week where someone commented saying something nasty about me. I chose to leave it up (and awesomely enough, the commenter actually emailed me a few days later to apologize). One of my other blogger friends was very confused as to why I left it up, my thinking was if I'm going to put myself out there, then I have to be able to take any criticism I might get. We then got on the topic of moderating comments and she had some very sensible and valid reasons for moderating her comments.

That was long. Apologies. In closing, I'm curious. To moderate or not to moderate?

I don't moderate my comments, but I have turned Comment Moderation on in the past for small periods of time. The only reason I did that is because I have a serious stalker ex who spends endless amounts of time on my blog spewing shit that has absolutely nothing to do with the post topic at hand. Seriously, she is crazy - no joke. So instead of wasting my time deleting her comments after they are posted, I turn Comment Moderation on so that it makes getting rid of her garbage that much faster and easier for me.

Other than her, anyone is free to comment on my blog, even those who post anonymous. And if they have something less than complimentary to say, I leave it up. People don't always have to agree with what I write or even like me, but as long as their comment is relative to the post at hand in some way, then their comment stays.

Of course SPAM comments are not tolerated on my blog and are deleted all the time.
I found this interesting... truly. I read your "101 Things You Don't Know About Me" post today, and I was about to comment and I saw you had exactly 101 comments, I thought... shit, you must want it that way. And I figured I better leave it alone. HEhehe

In regards to the Forum... I don't moderate. I believe people should say what they want. I am posting it for the world to see... in a public blog system, so I should be able to take the comments. But my topics will get racier the more comfortable I get, I guess I'll have to see then. Anonymous posts are fine too. I occasionally show people my blog, so I allow that incase they have anything to comment in writing. ;) I haven't had any SPAM yet, knock on wood, but I would delete it. :P
Ha-ha. Really? I have 101 comments on my 101 list? I didn't even know that! That's pretty funny...and cool!

But feel free to comment on it. The fact that my 101 list has 101 comments is just a coincidence.
My Wordpress blog moderates comments if it's a new commenter. If the person has commented before, it automatically posts. I HAVE gone in an edited comments, though, but the time I did it was because a former friend of mine got upset about something I wrote and made it personal, naming names and everything, when the post wasn't meant to be that way at all. So I cut out all of the names and personal situations that she'd posted in the comments. She, of course, got pissed about that, too, and accused me of not being open to talk about the situation (but that wasn't the case)... but that's the only time I've actually edited comments.
Same here... well, with the first part: my wordpress blog moderates comments if the person has never commented before. But after that, it automatically posts.

I've never had to edit or delete a post before... so far anyway. :) Not sure if I would either... maybe if it was really unnecessary and/or irrelevant.
I don't moderate and I do allow anonymous comments. Honestly, I've never received hateful comments, so there's never been a need for me to moderate or delete comments.

I've thought a lot about whether I'd ever delete a comment. I think if someone was attacking me personally, then I would consider it reasonable to delete the comment. I don't think putting yourself out there means you have to accept whatever crap someone decides to throw back at you. I don't let people treat me like crap in real life and I wouldn't on my blog either.
I agree. I don't take crap in real life and I won't take it on my blog, YT channel and any other part of my web identity either.
I have periodically moderated comments due to harassment and extreme trollism, though rarely. I also shut my comments off several times a month if I'm going to be able to look at them.

I don't delete things said about me or arguments - that is what comments are for imo, but I do delete racist comments or hate speech comments directed at other groups or other people.
i also have a wordpress blog and have it set so that any first time comment-makers are held for me to approve or deny, and then from there on out they can comment away without any moderation. when i had my blog at blogspot, i would get people from businesses who would go through the captcha and fill out the form just to advertise for their business (once it was for some sort of alcohol made with snakes?) and i got sick of it, but i didn't want to have to moderate EVERY comment that came in, so i switched to WP, which is a lot more flexible with things like that. if someone has something to say, i'm all for them saying it, as long as they're not rude and hurtful.
I don't moderate comments. However, if something hateful or completely unconstructed is posted, I will delete it. I'm all about discussion in my comments, but not if there will be an all out flame war.

Additionally, my work knows about my blog. I choose full disclosure when I applied. For this, they looked it over and completely agree that there is nothing jeopardizing about work, me and/or unprofessional about my blog. Thus, I want to make sure it stays clean lest I lose my job.
Funny thing, I just got 2 hater comments on my running YouTube channel. As Strong Bad would say, "DELETED!"
Not all people are that great to apologize, at least in my blog. I don't moderate comments but definitely I try not to allow anonymous commenters. I usually check my blog pretty egularly and if i have any nasty comments I usually delete them. They make me sad.
