I've been blogging off and on for nearly 5 years, and a few months ago, launched my first "big girl" site, with my own domain and such.
I've never had advertising or anything else on my blog. I see and hear of other bloggers becoming Brand Enthusiasts, getting sponsors and advertisers and other sorts of cool stuff.
Any suggestion to someone who's completely NEW to that part of the deal? ANY tips would be so helpful.
Make sure you also have lots of avenues for being contacted. Twitter, Facebook, an "Email Me" graphic on your site / contact form, etc. Also, on profiles you have on social networks, be sure you're tagged as things you really are interested in (eg., art, wine, travel, live music, etc.). The more specific you are when you provide info about yourself in the form of tags, the higher the likelihood a PR contact will pick you up.
And as expected -- find places to engage with other people with similar interests, and participate; that's part of the fun!
I would recommend buying a copy of How to make money with your blog. It has a travel slant, but the advice is applicable to any blog. It covers topics such as SEO, link building, gaining traffic, advice on ads and other methods of making money with your blog.
