The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I am seriously disgusted with this place. I have been laid off twice since the end of August and can't find crap here anymore. I have no ties except the bf and he is equally as tired. We've tried finding a job out of state but it's a little difficult, we want to be in that town and hit the ground running. How many of you would move without a job lined up right now knowing you'd put in a scary amount of effort because your life depends on it?

I'm so sick of this place that I want to pack up and aim for the coast. Crazy? haha

Don't head to the Charlotte area. Economy isn't too great here either, especially with all the bank issues currently happening.
there's nothing wrong with being scared or afraid to "sink". It's a scary world out there right now, and I find it pretty brave that you are even considering to move somewhere - sight unseen - in hopes to make a bad situation a bit better :o)
i dunno, after I graduated I decided to not move back home and that's just what I did. I found an apartment before I found a real job. But I also had 2 months before graduation and enough money to live off of for another 2 months. So I had 4 months to find something. I feel like if you play it smart then it's totally possible to just go without actually having something.
After college I moved from Boston to Vermont and within two weeks of moving home, I turned down a campaign job and moved to DC with no job. I lined up an apartment (it was easy - i took a weekend and looked at a few places) and then moved down a week later. It wasn't easy - i temped a lot but that pays the bills.

If you're going to do it - do preliminary research, make some connections (blogging is a great way to make some connections/network) and have a plan. Make sure you have money saved - moving expenses as mentioned are not cheap - and you want to have a backup just in case it takes a while to get a job.

Best of luck, it's not always the easiest decision to make (moving to a new city sans job that is) but sometimes it's the best!
We're doing it but not to Charleston, unfortunately that's way out of our reach financially right now. Instead we're moving to the state line about 2 hours from here. It's Bristol , TN/VA. We have a place lined up that we've already moved some stuff to and have a nice nest egg to last us a bit. The job prospects are good here as there are many cities to span out to find something, plus the bf has a potential prospect there already. We're excited because it is downtown living but cheaper! Charleston is not out of our eyesight though just on hold until the economy improves.
Good luck!
Sounds like you got things sorted out pretty well, then! I hope it works out and you're happier in your new place!
Glad things seemed to sort out a bit. Best of luck!
I'm sick of three places, Michigan, Indiana, and Arkansas. I've spent time in Kentucky, for six months, Indiana, where my boyfriend lived, and then Arkansas. The problem is, my boyfriend loves coming back here to his parents' house when we can't hack it out in the big bad world. It's a vicious cycle I'd love to be out of.

So, I think I would definitely consider moving without a job (it'd be just enough of a boost to get me out there)...if my boyfriend wasn't still tied to his momma's apron strings. (he's actually not THAT bad...but he's a wee bit)
Bristol, TN - I know it well (I'm from Nashville) - I am in the same boat. Milady and I are planning on moving to Chicago, but it's extremely difficult looking for jobs right now with the state of the economy - and being in another state does not exactly help with the interview process. I have faith everything will work out in the end, but I know the transition will be tough...
I can understand your want and sense of urgency to move. But packing up and moving some place without a plan, especially any type of job lined up, is like asking for trouble. You think you have problems now? Just wait until you having moving expenses and bills piling up with no income coming in...and all while trying to find your way around a new city.

Don't get me wrong, I love adventure and I'm not always Mr. Practical. But I hope you give this a lot of thought - weight out the pros as well as the cons, carefully. Not sure where you live now or where you want to head to, but if you move to a city like NY or LA, those are pricey places to live and without an immediate job or a hefty savings to pad you for awhile, the city will eat you up and spit you out faster than you can blink an eye.
I'm currently jobless.. 7 mnths now... I've been waitin for my residency visa 6 mnths now.. without it I can't work.
So, I've been spending my time volunteering and being crazy. It's frustrating at times, but at least now i have gotten over the fear of being jobless...

I'll pick up and go... life is short and the adventure will be sweet! hard yes... but you'll always wonder if you don't!
