The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I'm having an issue with putting music on my blog.

Do you like when you enter a blog and the music starts to play?
Do you have in on yours?
What is the worst song you heard play on a blog?

I actually can't stand music on a blog! Especially when I forget my speakers are turned all the way up. I think it's a big distraction. If a writer wants music, it should be optional for the reader and they can just click play. I really don't see the point of it. It's annoying. LOL.

Worst song? Hmmm, can't think of any right now. But anything with a million curse words that causes the page to get stuck. How embarrassing!!!! LOL!!!

Agree on both points --- don't have it, and don't like it.

Not only b/c it usually is way too loud (and I'm often somewhere public and quiet, like the library or in a train station...and I'm really not big into calling attention to myself like that!) but also b/c it makes the page load much slower.
No! I totally can't stand it either. Drives me crazy!
Hate it!

Agree with Irresistible Icing in that it should be optional for the reader and they should be the ones to choose if they music plays. When I was a new blogger I had this on my blog, I get the idea. You blog is like your little "home" on the web and you want is to be a nice as possible so you add music but truth is that it works against it purpose because my impression is hat almost everybody hates it.
I think there is an overwhelming consensus here about music on blogs. No one likes it, for a few reasons. 1, most people have their own music playing when surfing the web. It's pretty unwelcome when something else starts blaring. It's an immediate MUST CLOSE WINDOW NOW reaction, like when the guy starts telling you congratulations, you're out billionth visitor. 2, everyone has different tastes. If you're trying to appeal to a wide variety of readers, any song from any genre can immediately be a turn off for someone, and then they'll turn around and assume they'll also be turned off by your content.

I think the only acceptable music players are the ones you can spot RIGHT AWAY and turn off if you need to. Which, honestly, defeats the purpose.
Totally agree. I hate it. It's annoying trying to find the controls to shut off the music when I visit a page that does this. And if I can't find it fast enough, sometimes I just close out the entire window. If I have the volume open, it's because I'm already listening to music that I like. I agree that having a player that doesn't start automatically is the way to go if you want to add music to your page. How about embedding videos every now an then instead?
I hate when I go to a blog (or any website) where music automatically starts playing. It's kind of annoying. I don't have any music on my blog but if I did I would un-check the "play music automatically" option if they have one.
I think it's really bad for the user's experience. I don't like any website that music for all the reasons that others have said.
if there's music on a site, I won't even read them. It's that bad.
ditto (to music which starts playing autmatically).
A big NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO to music that plays automatically! I'm usually listening to music while I'm online, so when something else starts playing at the same time, its like fingernails on a chalkboard!

I don't mind if people put a player on the site that you have to click to start, but honestly I never click them. If there's a song I really want to share on my blog, I'll usually post a youtube of it, so people have the option to watch or ignore.
