So I am loving the whole blogging thing and really want to have a www. without blogspot in it. I want to figure out a few things. First of all should I stay on blogger or should I go to wordpress. Wordpress seems to have a lot of options like retweeting blogs and "liking" blogs and sharing them. Can you do that on blogger and I'm just missing out?? What is the difference? Then how do I register? I need someone to give me the dumbed down explanation because I understand NOTHING about buying the name and registering it and hosting. Those are all foreign terms.
The problem with doing this (at least outside of a renewal time) is that you're paying once for the domain registration at Blogger and then an additional $15/yr for the ability to use a custom domain at WP.com, which is the same price you would pay if you waited to register the domain through them. My recommendation would be to make a final decision (and, if your decision necessitates it, transition all of your content to WordPress) before you go about purchasing the domain.
I'm ok with paying twice. I think my biggest thing is I want a pretty blog, I know nerdy! But Wordpress you have to use their plain themes until you host it on your own right? At that point you really need to start spending money because you've got a monthly cost and then you have to pay for someone to design the page.
I just don't know if I want to worry about understanding hosting when I have so few followers. I know the most important things are having a domain and a nice looking girly blog.
I just want to be sure I can take a domain from Blogger to Wordpress at a later time if I choose to do so.
Nick I just looked at your blog. Is that self hosted or is Wordpress hosting it and you just have a domain?
I love Wordpress and totally recommend it for anyone that ever gets to this point and is trying to decide. I have self hosted Wordpress blogs and I wrote some easy to follow insructions for people who want to make the switch to self hosted Wordpress, if you are interested. :)
