My family and I are making a short trip to Chicago for some reason that borders on insanity. Basically, they are bored. SO, off they go to the midwest dragging S.Vincent along by the binding contract of "You never participate in any family affairs and we possibly hate your guts" guilt trip.
Of course they are going half cocked, and have no real plans besides seeing the museum and some fancy restraunt (my sister is in the restraunt industry). I suggested going to see "The Bean" but other than that I got nothing.......
Anybody got anything we must do to "Experience Chicago" in a long weekend in the middle of effing winter? I am looking for ANYTHING...bars, strip clubs, food places, a place to score some drugs, book stores, porn stores, torture chambers, parks, parking garages, the place that you work so I can stop by in a clown suit and sing my rendition of "Nothing Compares 2 U"
Since you DID refer to us as the Second City, you really ought to go see a Second City show. It's one of the first things I ever did in Chi-town and I really loved every minute of it. And one guy in the cast I saw is now on Mad TV, so you get a sneak peak of up-and-coming talent!
Which museum are you going to? I adore the Field Museum, but I'm really into earthy, nature-y stuff. If you're a science nerd like my fiance, definitely hit the Museum of Science and Industry. Or get the museum pass which is a deal that gives you discount admission to both those, Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, and I believe the art museum.
Also, hit up a Giordano's pizza place for lunch. IT DOES NOT DISAPPOINT. That's TRUE Chicago deep dish right there. One is on every corner it seems. The only downside is the beer selection, but you can't really go wrong with an icy Sam Adams on tap.
(I live in the suburbs so I tend to only do the touristy stuff when I go into the city, so my advice is sorta skewed. Though we do have all the pizza chains out by me, so that opinion is NOT skewed. I know what I'm talking about when it comes to pizza and beer.)
