The Bloggers With The Most To Say

When a new person comes you read your blog would you rather have them go back and read everything you've ever written and see how you've changed over time, or would you want them to just start fresh?

haha i didn't think anyone actually took the time to read thru WHOLE archives! i don't expect new readers to read archives... but if they want to, they're more than welcome to. :)
It would probably be interesting for them to go all the way back to 2005, but I wouldn't expect them to... Granted, it's only 310 posts, but I think they'd get a pretty good idea of who I am just by skimming the past month or so, yknow?
Considering some of my first posts weren't exactly the same level of quality that they are now, I'd much rather they start fresh. This is why I'm considering doing a "Best Of..." page, so they can at least read the better earlier one without having to read through so many posts.
I get beyond embarrassed when people inform me they've gone back to the beginning and read the whole way through. It's flattering - sure, but there's a level of growth there that includes a solid year of garbage that I don't have the heart to delete.
for my main blog, I would say go back and skim. My blog is more tips and tricks and my life lessons that my life stories, so it would be really good if they were able to take the time to go back and at least skim and read what they need to in order to get all the tips and tricks in.
As for my new blog, it is about my life. I will be referring back to previous posts and previous and events and I will do my best to link back to them, but if they get really bored one day and want to read about my life (not worth it in my opinion), then they are more than welcome to!
I don't have any preferences really. I've written almost a thousand posts, it would be a lot to ask of anyone to read even a quarter of them, but a lot of bloggers do read the old stuff - even though they might not do it immediately. It only becomes an issue when I refer to something which readers who have been reading me for some time might already know. For instance I rarely discuss my family, or my relationships, so if someone doesn't read me routinely they wouldn't know "the violin man" was my very best friend in college and is currently my boyfriend, they wouldn't get a reference to an old vagina joke or understand why I abhor twin-sets, this which sometimes get mentioned in passing in current posts - eventually they catch up or not. I don't think it matters.
I don't expect anybody to actually read my archives (not that I have a lot compared to some of you...), but there are definitely certain posts that seem to get a lot of play. Similar to my travel stories, I plan on bundling some of these when I have enough to create a big picture, kinda like Cliff Notes, for those that are seriously interested.
You know, I never really thought about that... I couldn't expect anyone to read back like that, but I guess I don't mind. I feel like I'm getting better over time, so it's probably best that they don't see my more shaky start.
They can start wherever they want! I know when I'm looking at blogs to see if I want to add them to my reader I usually read the last month or so to see if I would be interested in readering them. But I do sometimes go back and read old posts, especially of my favorite bloggers, to try to get some of the back story. I've noticed through my stats a few people have gone through and read most of my archives, so it is cool that someone is interested in the whole story.
I haven't been blogging long, so some people have gone and read all of my (currently 14) entries. But I wouldn't expect it - My blog doesnt really have any definitive structure - I switch between entries on me/my life etc to book reviews to random piece of creative writing. But whilst I may have a few reoccuring themes, somebody could pick up from my front page (latest two entries) quite easily, I hope.

I like David's idea of having a featured posts list on the sidebar. I might try that.
To fully understand my blog you need to read it all.

I don't care what you do. Just don't judge what I say until you read the ENTIRE thing. Sometimes I say things in the moment that are a bit harsh but if you read it all it pulls it all together.

I had a lady read MAYBE two of my posts and wrote me a very large, thought-out e-mail about how what I say is inappropriate, do I even love my husband, bla bla bla. I told the idiot to read the whole thing. She was so cocky she never apologized but she did write back with much better reviews.
