The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Hi guys,

I was just wondering if you know of any newsworthy issues that aren't in the news? I know we are all from different places across the world, and since I am a journalism student, thought I could get some really diverse and interesting thoughts from you guys? I look forward to hearing anything you might think!!

Thanks,

Olivia

I follow most LGBTQ issues and I recently heard a school in St. George, UT is now allowing gay and lesbian after school clubs. That's a great step in the right direction, especially for UT and some of the other Western states. (I live in the West.)
Wow, that really is fantastic news! Once there is an example and a precedent others will start following :-) thank you!
-Chaos in DRC is disappearing from the news.
-Nigerian oil-war with the rebels.
-The failure of governments to truly commit to the MDGs, except a few months before the review.
-A lot of the news is dominated by conflict (and yes, there needs to be); it tends to overlook the peace processes and efforts, the rehabilitation and coexistence work that's often carried out. A conflict zone isn't all gloom and doom or a human interest story.
-Oklahoma has passed a law which OKs making abortion details available online. This is a law, not a piece of legislation. It comes into effect in November. Most mainstream news sources haven't picked this up yet.
-In Jakarta last month, the hotel that the ILGA-Asia conference was meant to be held was stormed and picketed by extremists. Again, the global mainstream news media has overlooked this.

That's just off the top of my head. There's a tonne more, of course.
