The Bloggers With The Most To Say
just recieved this weird message from wordpress stating:
Just in case you aren't aware, no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.COM blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM
The advertising exceptions noted in support documentation are for high traffic blogs that qualify for and are accepted into the Ad Control program, soon to be replaced with the WordAds program, and for extremely high traffic blogs that qualify and are accepted into the paid VIP hosting program.

Can anyone help me decipher this?

That's what it sounds like to me.

Anyone with a wordpress.com blog cant host any type of commerical/ retail advertisement or sponsorship of anything unless you have a wordpress.org self hosted site, or that commercial site has to be your own( like your etsy shop)
This was my first time truly understanding the different between wordpress.org and wordpress.com
But we can have a blog roll. With simple links to other blogs or their button. we can't mention it as advertisements, sponsorship or even say that they will be charged/was charged money to get their button on our wordpress.com blog. ( I guess that means we can still charge them we just can't say that we did)

They are totally different in almost every way, and I would highly recommend self hosting if you have a few extra $$$

Permalink Reply by Ginny on December 9, 2011 at 5:20pm the funny thing is I don't even have advertising. I plan on being a sellout in the future.
Permalink Reply by Udoka Omenukor on December 22, 2011 at 2:13pm Yes, girl! You cannot make money on wordpress.com. You can only make money using wordpress.ORG!! (that's why they capitilize .COM). You need to get your own domain (or find someone to host you) and transfer your blog to wordpress.org.
