Permalink Reply by Erin McCarthy on October 1, 2011 at 3:46pm Have you seen this? Occupy till whenever
Do you think this is stupid? A waste of time? Are you involved? Do you suport the movement?
Permalink Reply by Gina on October 1, 2011 at 8:29pm So I thought I was sort of missing something, because I don't quite get it, but then I read Erin's link, and this line: "Not all of them can articulate exactly why they are here or what they want." pretty much sums it up.
If they can articulate what it is they want, what they are looking for, what they stand for... then I will make a decision. But I have a hard time supporting or opposing a group who doesn't know what they want or need.

And if you expect every person in army let's say--where they've all had their leaders objectives explained to them, to still have the same reason for being there, then you've not talked to enough humans.
Some people also don't like to talk to News outlets as a rule. If you've ever been involved in a "news story" and seen how it was spun, you might understand why.

Permalink Reply by Erin McCarthy on October 2, 2011 at 2:19pm As I pointed out below, each city is doing it's own thing--this video was only put out by a single group, they don't speak for every city and or every cell. I also pointed out above that some people don't like to speak to news media. Visit their respective facebook pages if you want to know the manifesto of each group.
My comparison to the military is that each person may have their own reason for joining and fighting and their goal may be explicitly different from the one espoused by their chain of command.
And since you brought up the founding fathers, let's keep in mind what Jefferson said about revolution and the frequency at which they ought to occur. ;)

Permalink Reply by Erin McCarthy on October 3, 2011 at 5:00am I am most in touch with occupy boston as two of the key organizers are my close friends and I've been to their website a lot. So it would be easiest to direct you to them.
Check out their about page. But don't just go there.
I am very proud of how they are trying to maintain a peaceful protest atmosphere.
From their general assembly post:
"The city collects our trash at 2 p.m. daily, so trash should begin to be organized at noon and again at 8 p.m."
"Two of signs hung up over one tent were taken down and an American flag was hung upside down was flipped right side up. Please be aware that an upside down hanging flag means the country is in distress. There was also a report of a threat of violence against one of our community. This is not acceptable. We are a nonviolent movement and so we expect all occupiers to follow this rule."

Permalink Reply by Erin McCarthy on October 2, 2011 at 9:51am well, each of the cities involved have been doing their sit ins in their own way. Just search for occupy on facebook--there are major cities all over america with groups up and things happening on their own schedule.
Occupy boston, for instance, has been going since Friday.
I would like to get something like that going in Paris..but occupation means something much different to the French.
