The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Can someone please explain how I go about getting more followers? I mean, sheesh, my blog isn't half bad ;-). I've done what's been suggested and commented on SO many blogs I can't keep track, and I'm now following a bunch of other's blogs. I've had my blog for only a couple weeks or so. I've got only 9 followers. Um, yeah, I'd like some more readers y'all. I sound pathetic. Sorry. Haha. But what's a girl gotta do?!

My blog Followers are 29, but I've got four times that many subscribers on Google Reader, others on Bloglovin', and tens of others on another feed service. (By the way my blog is more than a year old). So many people choose to follow a blog using different feed services, so the number of followers is not a perfect estimate as to how many people read your blog.

* My suggestion is to keep on writing, as a consistent blogger is always visited more than an inconsistent one.
* Create a blogroll and link to other blogs. Also, keep on visiting them regularly. Usually, people won't remember you or subscribe to you right away unless you leave an impression on them. Especially if you visit and comment regularly. Trust me, it's very rare that I get hooked on a blog from my first visit.
* Check your blog statistics with services like Google Analytics and SiteMeter. They're free and give you a good deal of info on how many hits you're getting, what keywords people use to land on your blog, etc..
* Wait it out.. If your blog is new, you have to wait until people get to know your blog more.

Hope this helps!
Yeah 9 followers is good for a few weeks! i read where one girl said that she went to 30 new blogs every day and posted a "thoughtful" comment. Sometimes you get lame comments and you think that the person didn't really read your blog. If you really read someone's blog and write something caring to the person, they are more likely to click your name and follow you. The problem I have is actually having blogs I want to read!! If I don't have something in common with the person or can't relate, I don't want to follow.
"If I don't have something in common with the person or can't relate, I don't want to follow."

- Same here! I don't really track my followers, so I don 't know how many I have, if any, haha (though I DID just add a feedcounter to my blog), I just like getting comments, and I check out everyone's blog (if they have one), and if I like it, then I'll add it to my reader. If I find that I really like the blog (whether it be because of the humor or style of writing or just that I have something in common with the writer), then I'll add it to the links on my blog.
This is a very common question here and I always say the same thing - content is king!

If you write it, they will come. (Or so you hope.)

It takes awhile to build up a good readership base. Take me for example, I've been blogging on a regular basis (several times a week) for over 4 years now! When I first started, not many people knew my little corner of the web existed. But today I have over 800 Followers and close to 900 subscribers. I'm up to a couple thousand hits a day on my blog, but believe me, it wasn't always like that.

So give yourself time. If you're blogging just for the comments or to obtain a large readership base, then you will surely burn out soon. Do it because you love to write, not for the "virtual fame and glory". ;)
lol I had my original blog on AOL (which was transfered to Blogger when AOL closed their journal community) ... and only got one or two comments for the first six months ... sooo I'd say you are doing pretty well. : D

9 Followers is not bad, think about it this way. DO you just want followers or people who actually read your blog? There IS a difference. : )
Hey April- a couple things (sorry if its repeat info). One is that ask people you know- friends and family to subscribe to your blog and let them know how important that is to get readers. I know I sent out messages about my blog to people and they all visited me, but sent all their comments to my email! I think a lot of people don't understand how important comments and followers are to blogs... With that boost more people might want to join. Like putting a dollar in a tip jar..

link your blog and posts to other blogs or websites- google bots look at your website and the more interconnected you are the better- also, make the works you use more specific, or words that you think people might search and want to end up at your blog.

have a contest- give something away. Choose some one to win something and the way their name is entered is by following your blog, or commenting on a post, or blogging about you blog.

Hope this helps, all the best to your blog I'm a follower now, so this post definantly helped your cause!
Time, time, time, time! I know, it's frusterating, but readers want to see that you're around, and that you WILL be around. Keep commenting, and always comment back. The biggest thing? Don't sweat the numbers...if you blog for the numbers, you're going to be unsatisfied (comments/followers are like money, you can never have "enough!").

Also, after going to your blog, I see that you went a whole week without blogging. I'm not one to say how often one should blog, but to gain readership, it's best to do it regularly, whatever that means to you. This consistancy helps show that you're serious!
don´t worry! I only have 2, haha but with patience I guess is just a matter of time until you have hundreds!
Write for yourself and people will come. I've had next-to-nothing followers, but really, I could care less. Once you get an audience it's hard to write what you really want because then you feel like you're there to entertain. I say, screw that, write what you think and write it for yourself. But if your motives lie elsewhere, than good luck my friend. Just keep this in mind, it's like being a philanthropist but to be a real philanthropist, you don't care who knows because you're doing charity work to do it, not to get acknowledgement. :D
Hi,
I'm new to 20SB and am in the same boat-trying to build readership. Thanks for the good advice.
I scrapped two months worth of blogs and started from stratch after I received great advice from a fellow blogger. He told me to create a character of myself and explain who I was so people would understand what I was blogging about and would be interested in reading.

Then I went around and read up on other people's blog, mainly on similiar subjects as mine. Commented on their posts. Just networked really. Ive only had 3 posts up since last week and have already seen tons of traffic on it. I know what everyone is saying, you should really worry about people following you or leaving comments but we're all bothered otherwise we wouldnt be here!

Carry on doing the same things you were doing.
If you follow me, then I follow you...thats what i normally do to get more followers-

follow me april, and ill follow you!
