The Bloggers With The Most To Say
Out of curiosity...
I've noticed that a lot of blogs I read often have giveaways, people get invited to various conferences, have sponsors, etc. I'm not a very active blogger at the moment, and fairly new to the whole world of blogging. I am loving it so far. I just wonder how the opportunities to take these next steps in blogging happen. Do you seek these things? Or do they find you? I have no intention of pursuing anything- I'm just curious. Anybody care to share?

Mostly they find me. But I'm very particular about what I accept and attend. Taking anything and everything just to "get stuff" compromises the integrity of my blog in my opinion. If it's something I think I would use/enjoy/relate to in someway, I may do a giveaway/go to event/write about/review it.
And I always remember that "getting stuff" isn't why I started my blog. I started my blog to have a place to write and it grew into a fantastic community. Yes, I may get some "perks" because I'm a blogger but that's definitely not the reason I have my blog.
I think some people tend to lose themselves when it comes to that and then it becomes the focus of the blog. And that's when I stop reading.

People have always approached me. I wouldn't even know where to start as far as seeking out people. I've gotten to participate in a lot of great things-- mostly because of people I've met through 20sb. Sometimes I get approached by people and the item or topic doesn't really fit, so I turn them down-- but i always make sure to tell them to keep me in mind for other items.

I'm curious, too! I signed up for My Blog Spark, which offers bloggers stuff for giveaways, but they've only sent me one in the 6-ish months since I signed up. I also know there's a Book Bloggers Ning (Kinda like 20sb) where a lot of publishers give away books for review/giveaways. I'm curious where else to look, though!

I just started blogging, so I don't have a great answer for you about how to get sponsors, etc.
But I wanted to chime in and say that I agree with Jamie in saying that I think sometimes people lose themselves in the free things and sponsorships that they get. I used to read this one blog, and I loved the topics and information, and now the lady ONLY blogs for sponsored posts and giveaways. Seriously? I don't even know why anyone would follow her blog anymore, because there is never anything interesting on there like there used to be. It's sad, really, because it was my favorite one to read!!

I can definitely see how people have lost themselves in their blog freebies and sponsorships. I think it is very wise to take a cautious approach. As I said, I'm not looking for the freebies or anything, as it stands I'm still trying to pinpoint simply how I want to blog and who I want to be in my blog for the world to see. I've just noticed that a lot of people have giveaways and such, so I was curious. If in the future I get to a point where I have these opportunities, the advice you guys have left will definitely weigh in on any decisions that I make. :)
