The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Please help!!!!! No I don't want you to donate money lol.....I want career advice

Hello 20 something’s . So I have an issue. Every morning I wake up and I go to work. Probably just like the most of you. As I’m driving to work every morning this feeling just comes over me. It’s mostly a feeling of disgust. At the current moment I fix computer problems for a company. I’m the helpdesk/Admin. I’m not sure if I’m tired of what I do (I’ve been doing the same type of work since I was 16 and now 28.) I guess I’m asking would any one suggest any other type of job that I can do with my experience. I have a very creative mind. I can usually come up with ideas on the spot, but this job just blocks everything. Please help!!!

You're the only person that knows what else you would be qualified to do... but fixing computers/assembling computers/selling computers are all things one of my former roommates has done. My brother used to fix computers as well and got a job in sales selling data storage to major corporations. He then moved onto post-sale installation of data storage equipment.
I guess the big question for NOW is whether any of these companies are hiring, or if that's even something you would consider doing. The economy is really not happening, and finding any job with a steady paycheck seems to be the way to go at the moment. So don't quit your job unless you are positive you have something else lined up.
If you're looking into going into a new field entirely, best of luck. It, unfortunately, seems that experience is they real deal-maker these days. I'd recommend looking for something you find interesting that you're good at.
Maybe you just need to find a creative outlet outside your job before you take any major steps. You know, kind of stick your toe in the water and see what else is out there. Take a class in something you've always wanted to try. And then reconsider your job.

12 years is a long time...maybe you need a new challenge?
The question is what do you want to do? Is there something you are passionate about and would feel great doing all the time or do you just need to fins another venue to ply your currents skills at, a different atmosphere.

I couldn't even begin to make a suggestion like that for someone I don't know.

Is there something else you want to do?
Can you tell us a little more about your hobbies or other subjects you are really interested in?

And I echo Oats, please be sure to stick with your job (and steady paycheck) as you explore...but don't hesitate to put yourself out there. I felt discontent with my job for months and the second I finally got the courage to start looking other places, they laid me off! Imagine if I had applied to other jobs when I first felt in my gut that horrible feeling of unhappiness! That's my biggest regret...settling in a career I knew wasn't right for me.

Kudos to you for being willing to follow your heart and pursue other options. I wish you the best of luck.
