The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Possibly a dumb question: Referring to significant other as "J" in blog?

Practically every female blogger I read who mentions a significant other refers to him as "J." There's also one "Jay." In the comments of one such blog, a commenter replied something along the lines of "Well, blah blah blah my J."

Is this some kind of secret code? I can't think of anything that J could stand for, but it has to be more than a coincidence. My fiance's name actually does start with J, which makes the situation even weirder. If it's an abbreviation or something, will someone please clue me in before I start thinking I'm in a suspense novel?

Thank you, bloggers.

i wish i knew
Huh, I haven't noticed this! Most of the blogs i follow just refer to BF, or occasionally use a first name/first initial - haven't seen a J yet though ...
Ha ha. I've definitely noticed this, and I even mentioned it to a non-blogging friend of mine. I've always assumed it was a legitimate abbreviation and not code for anything.
lol!! I do this too, but my hubby's name is actually Jamie and I call him "J" all the time.

I remember for longest time when i first started writing in forums people referring to their husbands as DH..huh??! :)
Most people use that to mean "dear husband." I've also seen DD (dear daughter), DS (dear son), MIL (mother in law), and FMIL (future mother in law).
I get around.

Or not.
Your comment made me literally lol :-)
I actually see M. more than "J" so....I guess there's just a lot of men with names that start with these letters. That's what I've always assumed....John, Jack, James etc. Yep, I just always assumed that.

Also, since your fiance's name starts with a "J" I think that's why you notice it more. And since my bf's name starts with an "M" I assume that's why it catches my attention.
I use letters a lot when referring to real life people and I have a lot of people who sign comments with their initial though I haven't noticed any particular letter.
I've seen a lot of blogs where for anonymity's sake people are referred to by a letter or initial... like K took C to the supermarket where they ran into J&B, hahaha, and then bought a bunch of beer for the party.

I don't understand this lack of creativity. If people don't know these people, and the people you are referring to won't find this, what harm in using their name? and if they will read it, make up a new name, or change sexes. Like Rosa to Rupert or Caroline to Karl.

Personally, I find the letter abbreviations classically boring lacking profundity and totally blasé.
Well maybe just maybe there it’s a mere abbreviation. Normally they explain the person in an earlier post that you did not read, and therefore you are lost. I often use letters also. But maybe you need to just ask lol the blogger and they will explain.
I kind of assumed it was just an abbreviation for a name, but I couldn't imagine how I never see any but J's. It's definitely strange.
