A lot of times when I'm writing a post, or even reading others, I think that this post could easily have been turned into three individual posts. Some posts doesn't have one topic and they go on forever! A lot of times I will divide mine up and post them over days, but other times I think: "No, I want to blog about something else tomorrow" and then I cram all the stuff into one post.
Personally I would rather have three short posts, so that when you read the title you know what the post is about instead of these long ones that contain a bit of everything. But I'm almost scared to post two or three post in one day as I know this freaks people out! Even though it wouldn't really be more, just two or three short ones instead of one long one... Personally I wish more bloggers would divide up their posts so that they weren't so long.
What do you think? Does length posts get to you? Or if people post to often? Do you agree with me that two short post in one day is better then one long one wit two topics?
I can handle a semi long post if its divided into paragraphs. I agree, I would rather read two separate posts if they are on two different topics rather than having two topics put into one long post. Like you said, if I read the title or the first paragraph I want/hope to know what the post will be about that I am going to be reading.
Yes, or if one post is just a YouTube video or a photograph you want to share but really has no relevance as to what you wish to write about better put it in a post to it self. That's my opinion anyway..
I tend to write long -- it's a character flaw -- but I have a pretty good sense of story telling so I don't deviate from the topic/story at hand. That said, I NEVER update more than once a day, and in general, I only update every couple of days.
I do have to admit to being annoyed by multiple posts in a day. But perhaps that's just because it's not my personal style.
Here's the thing. Writing, as with any other art form, does not have a right or a wrong way to do things (well -- in terms of what you write or how you write; grammar, of course, is another issue, but I'm not going to open that can of worms right now). So, if you feel like writing one gigantic post, or multiple smaller posts, by all means, have at it.
Of course, after all it is the bloggers "home" on the web and they should do it the way they like! I was just testing the waters and what people thought of splitting up the bigger posts into two smaller ones..
I'm the same way. I tend to write long too. I usually write on one topic per post. I divide it up into paragraphs to make it easier to read.
However, there are days, when I post 2-3 times. Only one of those posts, I would consider long.
If I'm writing about a whole bunch of stuff, but doesn't require a lot of detail, I call the post, "Random." That was just an example. I call it something wittier than that. Along with that, I post each different thought with a number. I try not to do that too often. I try to keep it to "my normal style" of writing that I do daily.
I agree with you-- every writer has their own style, and even though blogging has kind of created a certain structure, I think it's important as a writer that I don't let that dictate too much how I write. I am also someone who tends to go off on tangents and write longer posts (though well organized in paragraphs). I think it comes from my tendency to talk a lot in real life (something I know I share with others), and one of the most important things about writing my blog to me is doing it my way. I want my blog to be as much of me as I can.
To avoid false expectations from readers, I also title my entries a bit ambiguously-- in ways that people can interpret what they may from what is coming and what they read. I hope it helps.
My two cents, added. Now, does that mean we have four cents?
I totally know what you mean. I talk a lot in real life too. I add a lot of details in my blog that some may consider unimportant, but I think they are extremely important to what I am writing. It's the same in real life. When I am telling a story, I put so many details in.
I'm with you on writing being your own way. It's our little space, where we can write about what and how we want.
If someone doesn't like that I write long posts, oh well. I'm sure some of my readers will exactly read it and comment.
I'm up for anything when it comes to rreading. Sometimes a long flowing multitopic post just WORKS cuz of how it's written.
I TRY to stay on topic with each post, and I try to post once a day, but sometimes things happen that "force" me to post...like just today I think I posted 3 times (i know i know) one was my originally scheduled post, and then 2 more due to happenings in the blog world lol.
I love when other people post often. I read a lot of lifestyle blogs and prefer daily or every other day posts over a weekly recap. I'm nosy like that.
From the perspective of a reader, I don't mind if a post addresses multiple topics. At least for me, if I'm following a blog then that means that I like the person and want to read what they have to say about whatever. Also, if you're a competent writer and clever, then I don't care how long your posts are.
