no.
why?

because using drugs while pregnant harms the kid
But why would you go through the trouble of testing someone with no history of drug usage? and EVERY time they visit the doctor? That's so wasteful of already-pinched funds the WIC program has.
most people would lie about drug use, and you cant point it out by looking at them. id rather have my tax dollars go to a non drug user, than a druggie.
I'd rather my tax dollars not be wasted, period.

You make a point about people lying about drug usage, but there is a way to find out if people have a recorded history of drug usage. If you don't have one recorded, well that's just how it goes.
But your statement reiterates my point: no you can't tell just by looking that someone has a history of drug usage, so why are you treating them as if they are, simply because they are on WIC?

That IS like saying 'hey I think you might use drugs' just by looking at them.
Confused as to where tax dollars and WIC came in?? Perhaps I should read blog
This funds argument is odd. A urine dip probably costs like... I don't even know? $10? At most? Which is extremely extremely cheap in the context of medical care... like, negligible. If you're talking about a LAB urine screen, that is a different thing, but would not be indicated for first-line routine drug testing.
The UA stick/cup itself may cost $10, but then it would have to be processed somewhere at a center ($) and then you'd have to pay the Drug Testing Technician who would collect and analyze it (More $), plus the extra time (and thus $) required to process these.

times that by how many women are on WIC and the gov't wouldn't have any of it.
well when pregnant, you have regular visits, so i was proposing doing the urine test then. it can be processed immediately (in office/clinic) and by regular medical staff. so like $10 total - or maybe even like 5 (I actually have no idea how much this would cost but they typically do a UA dip anyway so doing a quick drug dip has to be very very little)

if doing it upon hospital admission it would be a bit more

and anyway i am mainly talking about the subject here - testing pregnant women - on WIC or not. their health insurance would then pay, not WIC. they shouldn't be taken off wic for drug use but it would be good to know in terms of treatment/anticipating complications.
No.
It's pretty self-righteous of you to think that you can invade the body of another woman just for being poor and needing assistance while pregnant. You mentioned in your post that only women on WIC should be drug tested. Why not all women? Why not invade their privacy further, and search their homes and follow them around at work and throughout their day and interrogate them?
my post says "I believe that women who are pregnant should have to have weekly drug tests: if they are on WIC, a drug test each time they go to the doctor and other women every doctor visit."

you must have misread, but that is ok.

but the testing would be only when they go to the dr for all women, and for those using our tax dollars, lets make sure the tax dollars are going to good use and take it a step further to protect the unborn child. It breaks my heart when I hear of a child that comes out of the womb addicted to drugs, a "crack baby". how can the mother do that to their child? we need to protect the children.

if they want the kid, they need to take care of it the entire pregnancy. if they dont want to take care of their body and the kid, they shouldnt have had the child in the first place.
