My apologies if this has already been discussed, but does anyone recycle old posts? Meaning do you take an old post and repost it? If you don't, do you think it's kind of chees-ay?
Ooh good question... I've never done that! But mostly because I don't feel the need... My blog is more or less personal... if I ever DID though I don't think it would necessarily be cheesy, as long as there's a reason for reposting. If there isn't, then don't do it I say!
I've never heard of anyone reposting old posts! Maybe they link back (reference) an old post in a newly written post, but recycling your posts should be a no-no!
ALWAYS go with fresh content. If anyone wants to read an old post, they will surf thru your archive.
I think it can be appropriate if you move your site and start fresh. Particularly if you get a lot of new readers in the process. Old timers can skip it or feel ultracool that they've read it before, and new people get a good read they otherwise wouldn't have known about. Only do it if it's an excellent post though. In general, I think the concept of time and "fresh" content shouldn't be that big of a deal. Time is only relative. Half of the time, I'll start posts in drafts and then don't publish until weeks or months later.. Does that make it "old"? Not really..
I did this twice, only because I deleted an old blog and started up a new one http://girlaboutbusiness.blogspot.com, and those 2 posts created a lot of buzz amongst my readers. It was very pertinent information that I felt my new audience could use, so I re-posted it. It turned out to be a great idea. Other than wanting to share that content with a new audience, I agree that recycling old posts should be a blogger don't!

I've seen this done before, and the person who recycled the post just wanted to share her "Introduction" with all her new readers. She even made a note that she figured it was a waste to make a whole new post for something she already had. I guess that didn't really bother me, but probably only because she specifically mentioned her reasoning. If someone recycles their old posts just because they don't feel like writing a new one, or are having a writer's block or whatever their reason, it's pretty cheesy. Write new stuff. That's what bloggers do...they write. Not repost and repost.
i've seen it when the blogger's going on vacation or something, and decided to bring up a favorite post of theirs. or for an introduction post to new readers. it's understandable sometimes, especially for those bloggers with years of content or something.
can't expect for new readers to spend three days reading every single post in your archive!

I know a bunch of people who did that, I don't think it's cheesy but I understand how it can seem a bit dull for some people. I guess if you're writing about a certain thing and you wanna look back, it's okay to post it too, but never really as a post of its own. It's just my thoughts though.:)
To avoid reposting, I picked out my favorite posts and made an uber cheesy "best of" list (for like, all four posts that I consider worth remembering) on the side bar. That way they are easily found by myself... and anyone else who feels compelled to see what else is hiding in the archives.
