1. Agnostic, with liberal Christian Protestant (UCC to be specific) upbringing... I still sometimes do church-related stuff.
2. This is a longer story probably than anyone wants to hear. Cliff notes version: I was raised as a very lax Protestant, but I think I really did have Christian faith at the point when I was confirmed at age 15. Since then, though, I have become disillusioned--by religious teachings that I disagree with and by experiences and occurrences that to me seem to conflict with religious teachings, among other things. I have looked at many philosophical arguments for both theism and atheism, and I have concluded simply that there is no way I can reach a conclusion.
3. I have no quarrel with any particular faith; my theological debates arise mainly when someone--whether theist or atheist--claims their own beliefs are the correct ones and someone else is wrong. My concise argument would be this: How can any one person possibly know the nature of the universe?

1. Agnostic, with certain catholic (Christian) beliefs. (They tend to be limited)
2. I was raised in a Catholic environment, where I would go to church every Sunday with my mom. Did my Communion but never my confirmation. Somehow I managed to convince my mom not to let me do my confirmation despite the pressure. The whole scandals stipulating the cover up of certain priests that wouldn't be removed from priest hood despite the many allegations just disillusioned me as a whole. (I don't mean to offend anyone with this I believe religion is a delicate matter when in discussion.) I believe many biblical stories are conflicted with actions done by those who serve religion. I've read the many teaches of theism and can't say I support it completely as the bible was written and revised one too many times. On the other end is atheism and I can't go as far to say that I believe there is no God. So I'm stuck somewhere in between. Believing there is a God (most likely) just that religion is being carried out as an organized monopoly.
3. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If you want to be able to believe in your faith, then allow others to believe in the lack there of. Until this day there is no one religion or person who is right about the universe.
Kay! You put into words what I struggle with to a T... Thanks so much!!!! My husband and I have started a blog talking about this subject and our journey through it. Please check it out!

1. I'm a Christian, seeking to follow Christ and the life we see laid out in God's Word, the Bible.
2. Just wrote a post on this earlier this week: http://ignoranthistorian.com/2009/06/why-i-believe-in-god/.
3. Hard to say...I'm not going to spend my time arguing for the existance of a god with a Muslim, for example. I have no problem with debates, but it needs to be on a more defined issue (e.g. the existance of God or the possibility of a good, all-knowing God).
Ronnica:
Your point about debating is a good one. I agree that there has to be a specific topic because religion is such a huge subject. Thank you for replying!

1) Not into organized religion but I do believe to a certain extent in the moral messages of most religions, the concept of altruism that underlies a lot of what many religions value, and I believe there is a "balance" of sorts in the Universe
2) For the same reason most people believe things - my background, my experiences, my exposure to certain types of things
3) I try not to debate about religion and politics - I think for the most part it's a waste of time (although I do enjoy discussing these things in appropriate settings!)
1. I am an atheist
2. Because no proof has ever been shown for anything supernatural.
3. I don't believe in your god for the same reason that you don't believe in the multitude of other gods that men have worshipped. Lack of evidence.
