The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Hello all:

My boyfriend and I are going to go on a crazy, extended road trip across the USA.  We're young, might as well go for it, eh?  I've been doing tons of research on roadtrips, but I was wondering if anyone on here had any thoughts?  Advice/places to see/words of encouragement/people who wanna make friends?  Does anyone have any road trip experiences to share?

And, of course, I will be blogging about it when we leave!

Thanks~

Ooooh, I love a good road trip! I've seen a large chunk of the US by car so I'd be happy to answer any of your questions.

Here are a few pieces of advice:

1) Get yourself a decent sized cooler and stock up on lots of food that are easy to eat in the car. Think fruit and veggies, crackers, make lots of sandwiches, and some candy and other "junk" foods. Try not to stop for fast food too much and instead go off the beaten path and pull over anywhere that catches your eye and have a picnic! You'll have more fun and you'll save money.
2) Lots of music and podcasts. This one's a no-brainer. But also, take some time during your trip to turn the sound/music off and just enjoy your surroundings.
3) Take lots of pictures!
4) Have a general route that you plan to take, but don't feel like you have to stick to it 100%. If you can afford the extra gas, take a random off-shoot if something looks interesting. Take lots of maps with you so you can open them up on picnic tables or on the hood of the car so you can get the "big picture" of where you are.

Have FUN!!! If you go anywhere near the Seattle area, or pretty much anywhere on the West coast, I'd be happy to give you some fun things to see/do!
thanks! we're from California, but Seattle is def gonna be a stop! I'd love any suggestions/etc~~
Oooooh, fun! When are you planning on being in Seattle? I have tons of fun things to do, both touristy and hidden little gems around the city :-)
we're not sure exactly when, but i'll hit you up for some tips when a date is more definite for sure~
I think Stevie summed up all the best advice! These are things I did when I moved across the country a few years ago (I'm also in Seattle!).

I would like to add that if you do stop to eat at a restaurant, try not to stop at a chain. Your experience will be more unique and it'll be a fun way to remember the city/town.

Have fun!
Steve's advice is exactly what I was going to write. Also, fill up on gas whenever you stop. It's not worth risking.
no advice, but i'll admit i'm totally jealous! hope you have a kickass time!
Personally I wouldn't plan too much. Just go where you want to. I prefer not taking maps either. Probably not great advice, but ensures you end up in memorable situations.
Oh, fun! I just got back from a month long trip down through the west and up the Pacific.
GPS is amazing, if you can afford it. Takes a lot of the stress out of finding places in unfamiliar cities.
When not staying with people we did a combination of couchsurfing (www.couchsurfing.com), hostelling (www.hostelworld.com), and sleeping on the side of the road that seemed to work out.
Random unscheduled stops are the best. Avoiding fast food is a good rule of thumb (that probably won't be kept at all times!)
Mostly, have fun! Keep a pillow, games or book, and plenty of decent tunes for when you're passanger.
ooOh I love roadtrips!! You will really get to know each other well! :) I did the whole west coast (im from vancouver) and it was one of my favorite trips! Stopping in at seattle, the oregon sand dunes, san fran, etc. etc. I agree that not having it planned out exactly is the best way to go, see where you end up! The journey is far better than the destination :) have fun!
"Two years he walks the earth. No phone, no pool, no pets, no cigarettes. Ultimate freedom. An extremist. An aesthetic voyager whose home is the road. Escaped from Atlanta. Thou shalt not return, 'cause "the West is the best." And now after two rambling years comes the final and greatest adventure. The climactic battle to kill the false being within and victoriously conclude the spiritual pilgrimage. Ten days and nights of freight trains and hitchhiking bring him to the Great White North. No longer to be poisoned by civilization he flees, and walks alone upon the land to become lost in the wild." - Alexander Supertramp May 1992

A good mind set for the road. http://filmrubbish.blogspot.com/
