The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Hello all:

My boyfriend and I are going to go on a crazy, extended road trip across the USA.  We're young, might as well go for it, eh?  I've been doing tons of research on roadtrips, but I was wondering if anyone on here had any thoughts?  Advice/places to see/words of encouragement/people who wanna make friends?  Does anyone have any road trip experiences to share?

And, of course, I will be blogging about it when we leave!

Thanks~

i will def be stopping in DC! any tips are appreciated!
Do a scavenger hunt. It will make things more interesting.
this is an interesting idea...i think i'll do it!
My friends did one on their road trip a few months ago. It gave them something to look forward to at each of their stops.
Be careful what exits you get off on. One time I had to pee soooo bad but I couldn't find anywhere that I wasn't afraid of getting robbed or shot in. We finally stopped at a sketchy gas station because I couldn't hold it any longer and almost had our car stolen. Long story... but it was scary. You might go through a lot of ghettos, DO NOT stop there. You'll get looked at like prey.
I love road trips!! We just drove from Nevada to Wisconsin and these were some things that helped us...

-when you have to stop, take care of everything...if its to fill up on gas, use the bathroom and get any food/drinks you need too..no use 'saving time' by rushing through a stop only to make another 'quick' stop an hour later
-baby wipes are amazing for cleaning spills quickly
-disposable toothbrushes (we used Crest Wisp) help after a meal or just a long day of driving
-www.roadsideamerica.com has some great cheesy roadtrip attractions, you can see a map and find places to stop along your route
-even if you have a GPS, take an atlas too...you'll have it in case of emergency and sometimes its nice to know what your surroundings are. A lot of these will also show some attractions that you'll be traveling past
-take an iPod or CD player!! we drove through Wyoming & South Dakota and would go for hours with nothing but static on the radio..nice for a while, but not that long

Have a great trip!!
i love road trips and usually do one from austin (hometown) to chicago or tucson to visit family every year. one thing that i completely recommend is taking the cheesy cliche pictures in front of landmarks and monuments. in a few years, you'll really like that picture in front of mount rushmore. :) and stop at national parks! they're beautiful and you won't regret it.

someone mentioned to have some spare cash, and i completely agree. you never know what you might encounter - emergencies or exciting adventures! my mom's credit card gets frozen EVERY TIME we travel because wells fargo is paranoid that someone stole her card. she even calls and warns them ahead of time for trips. just be ready for anything. and having passports goes along the same lines. you may decide to pop across the border on a whim and they do check passports coming back into the country.

also, instead of music my family usually chooses a book or two on cd or a couple of comedy albums. it's especially nice if you and your traveling buddy disagree on the music (like my hubby and i do sometimes).

finally, i like to have a general idea of the big cities we're going to hit and look up some fun/interesting places to visit. in austin, for example, there's a great eclectic vibe in the south part of town with little shops and restaurants or plenty of historical markers all over the area. and there are also great museums.

you can message me if you have any texas questions - between my husband and i, we've pretty much lived all over the state. good luck and have fun! --alex
I love road trips!

1) Don't get stressed out if you get lost. It's best to just remain calm, pull over, and make a plan. I've found most roads lead to your destination as long as your going in the right direction.

2) Bring snacks and lots of water. Try to eat healthy so no one gets cranky.

3) Make a general plan of destinations, but leave some time for those unexpected local attractions that catch your eye!

Have fun!
i just want to say awesome icon haha

Get friends to give you playlists, when the scenery is dull (or dark) listening to what they think suits as road trip music for you can keep you occupied, you know they'll throw in some random tunes, and some memory fueled tracks.
