The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Spend a semester or a long period of time abroad and love to talk about it but feel like no one cares because they weren't there? I care!  And I bet so do my fellow travelers here on 20SB! I love to hear about long-term time spent abroad and some favorite stories about adjusting to life in a different country/city.    long stories, short stories, words, phrases, photos-- bring 'em on!  I've also only spent a long period of time in Europe and love to hear how experiences differ in other parts of the world.

I spent a semester in Perugia, Italy my junior year of college and absolutely fell in love with everything Italy.  my time there is actually what started my blogging-- I was using it as a journal of what I did so I didn't forget anything as well as a way to keep my family and my friends updated.  I hope to turn it into a book someday.  since returning to the states I have dreamed of moving back to Perugia at least for a little while, and traveling around Europe with a backpack and without a plan.

to get things rolling, my favorite things/times were:

-- learning Italian.  and not only traditional, but Perugian slang.
-- befriending a cafe owner who spoke no English.
-- taking trains to multiple countries in one weekend!  amazing!
-- eating gelato multiple times a day and not being judged for it.
-- falling in love with an Italian man, with whom conversation was interesting because we each had to meet halfway between Italian and English, but falling in love nonetheless.  it's possible, I swear.  it was like something out of a movie  (and yes, before you ask, we're still in touch, but nothing more than friends).

Can't wait to hear other stories!

Im currently living in South Korea for a year teaching English. I have also worked abroad in South Africa, Australia and France but this may well be the most challenging plave I've been to. Culture shock, different language, unfamiliar food, difficulty of making new friends etc.
However it is also an awesome experience..the kids are adorable and it's a beautiful, lively and vibrant country to explore!

I'm an Aussie currently living in the UK, and have been here for a bit more than a year.

Some of the highlights:

- the culture and history that are here....nothing like what we have at home
- being so much closer to so many countries
- Berlin - amazing city, the history here is fantastic
- Venice
- exploring as much of England as I can via public transport
- seeing the Edinburgh Military Tattoo
I spent 6 months straight after high school living and teaching (er attempting to teach lol) on a small island in the South of Thailand. I have missed that life ever since I left. I'm slowly getting back in touch with everyone now that the island is making it's way onto the "grid".

It's funny cause I actually came on 20SB today looking for some recommendations for digital/online scrapbooking since I still haven't gotten very far with my regular scrapbook of my trip (10 years later lol), but slowly getting all my photos scanned in to the computer.

At some point I'm hoping to get organized and get the energy to type up my old journals that I kept while I was there. God, it was such an adventure! I'm really hoping to go back next year, I'm so "home" sick! Waking up to roosters crowing in my window, coming home to water buffalo in the yard, hired macaques picking our coconuts, giant monitor lizards staring me down while doing my wash...ahhh yes, my little island in the South.
