The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I have wanted a tattoo since I can remember learning about their existence. I love the idea of having something personal, artistic and permanent etched into my skin. Yet, somehow I've stayed tattoo free for 24 years.

Recently, I've decided I want a tattoo and now. I haven't found an artist I like, but I know two great friends who are tattooed and highly recommend their artists are creative and most importantly CLEAN. My issue is that I am hesitating for a variety of reasons. (If you'd like to see them stop by my blog - they aren't particularly important).

I am thinking of getting a 1" diameter line drawing of a dove on my inner left wrist. I wear a watch 99.9% of the time which would cover it for the most part, but I am concerned about how it would affect me in work. I hold an executive position at a property management company.

Any and all advice is appreciated!

P.S. If you have some, I definitely want to hear about them/your experience!

Edit: There is a lively discussion going on in the comments section of this blog post, which will give additional reasons/answers to some of the things pointed out here. I'm lazy, so I'm just going to post the link: http://aliannakyran.blogspot.com/2009/03/tattoo-me.html

Pretty sweet idea you had there for your tattoo.
thanks!
thanks:) now if only i had a girlfriend:)
That would be quite the vital step toward attaining a wife (not necessarily a family, however).
The good news is, I'm pretty sure tattoos aren't as controversial as they used to be. I can definitely see the need to want to be professional. But on the other hand, that's like saying someone with tattoos isn't capable of being professional, which isn't true. If you get a small tattoo, that's in an area where you can cover it for when you are at work, I think that is totally acceptable and respectable. I have 3 that are all in a covered area unless I'm in a swimsuit. I love them.
I have two tattoos, both are places that are easy to hide - back of my neck (I have long hair) and my left foot. I've considered getting one on my left wrist as well, but hesitate for the same reason. While I find wrist tattoos absolutely beautiful and intriguing, I also fear what people will think when they see it.

Not sure how much help I can be in that respect, but tattoos are definitely a great form of expression, in my opinion. And if it's something you truly want, I say go for it. Maybe just wear long sleeves more often?
The school district I'm in doesnt allow tattoos...My wrist is too stick like to keep a watch in place to cover my wrist tattoo, but I do cover it was a band aid (bleh) and I wear a sweater. It's freezing in the school, so that works out! My problem is the foot tattoo because I like cute shoes. I see it as no big deal because I like them and ultimately that is what matters most.
Thanks!

I'm not really concerned about someone seeing it under my watch even if I also have tiny wrists and my watch moves because it really is going to be tiny. (If you're Canadian - I want it to fit inside a loonie).

I personally don't feel like it's unprofessional or that someone with tattoos is (for lack of a better word) a freak. I love them but I don't know my work colleagues enough to know how they feel about it.

I could honestly cover it with make-up if I really wanted to hide it... or do the band-aid thing although that would raise questions about suicide.

I think I'm honestly just looking for justification. I am so ready to get it and I know it's going to be small and easily covered. I've been drawing on myself with pen for years and I doubt anyone notices that. Plus, it is almost always FREEZING in my office, so I could just wear longer sleeves during meetings or at hearings, etc. I just don't want to feel like I have to do something. That's like death/slavery for me and I avoid it at all costs.
Looks a bit like you've already made up your mind. So go get it and make sure to post a picture!!

I posted a blog about mine if you want to check them out: http://amindinmotown.wordpress.com/2009/02/09/all-inked-up/

Love the paws on your feet especially.
