Great post. It is from an interesting perspective and very well written!
I have to say that the show is a guilty pleasure. A lot of the press I have seen on it has suggested it makes teen pregnancy seem glamorous, or "cool." I suspect that those who write these pieces have not seen it, or at least not more than a few episodes, as I think they do a decent job depicting the realities of teen parenthood.
In a lot of ways, I think it's better for young women to see what it's really like, because I've had many young patients and so many of them have been completely unprepared for the situations that arise when you're a young parent... but I suspect much of that is cultural (I work in an urban area where teen pregnancy is relatively common)... seems a little different than the experiences you describe in your post

I watch that show on a regular basis. I don't know what it is, but it's just so compelling!
I agree with leilani that I don't think it glamourizes teen pregnancy like a lot of people think. I think it really does show how difficult it is to be a teen mother. Especially because every single kid on that show has parents that obviously don't care what their kid is doing as long as they don't have to deal with it. (With the exception of Ryan and Maci. They actually seem to come from a very loving household.)
It is incredibly obnoxious reading the IMDB boards for this show, though. I'm certain that the producers edit the show to make some girls look good and some look horrible. But I guess the girls knew that was a possibility when they went into the show.

I totally agree with you about the IMDB boards; some of the comments on it are truly vicious. And I'm sure that most of the people commenting on those boards have no idea about what those girls are really going through.
