When someone follows you, are you obliged to follow them back? But what if you don't want to?

That's actually the first time I hear that rule... I mean in all fairness I don't have THAT many followers- But I usually follow a blog because I want to read it, not because I expect them to read mine too. I think that's why most people SHOULD follow blogs. It's a great way to be more "cultured" in the blog world (for lack of a better word for that...) but I think the 'i'll follow you if you follow me thing' is a bit overrated...
