The Bloggers With The Most To Say

The *official* How Do I Get More Readers/Traffic/Try to Make Money From My Blog thread

Okay guys, I feel like we have one of these threads pop up every few weeks so in order to keep the clutter down, I'm going to feature this one. Any other threads that get posted about this will be deleted.

Feel free to ask questions and share your tips, tricks and advice about these things.

And now for my number one piece of advice about getting readers/traffic:

- Be visible. There are a million blogs out there so it's hard to stand out. If you don't let us know you are there, we won't see you. So comment on other blogs, be active on the forums, twitter, send emails, be engaging!

I want to kiss you right on the lips for deciding to only create one of these threads! I find that with multiple threads of the exact same topic, I just end up repeating myself over and over. One place for everyone to share ideas and give input is an awesome idea!

you might check this out and give your insights there, just throw me your questions and I'll to the rescue to help you guys! Goodluck!

Leave meaningful comments on other people's blogs. What I find easiest is to find blogs that I enjoy reading - don't think of commenting as a "chore" because it isn't. If you genuinely like the blog, then its easy to comment.

Don't leave things like "Good Post". No way. No sale.

Take the time, read the post, and leave meaningful and engaging comments.

Amen! It's also frustrating when the comment turns into a mini blog of it's own, so try to keep it on the shorter side.

Also: Positivity. You don't have to agree with the blogger to leave a positive comment. Anything mean or nasty gets an instant blacklist from me.

I couldn't agree more. I am making my blog my pet project for the next year. I really get a lot out of it and I love reading other peoples blogs. When I started being more active on other blogs, my followers doubled. I want to keep growing!!!
Amen. Best advice.... and thank you. haha
Thank You.
Strangely enough, I think one of the best ways to get your blog know especially in the community is to have it attached to your e-mail account and have a fancy tagline that the heading of your website. Now I know not everyone wants to do this, but considering how many e-mails are sent over a year, people will love it. I attach my website to the end of every e-mail I send. (just be careful when sending off resumes and professional information.)
I have a question. I have two blogs and one is like my 'main' blog so when i comment and get active etc thats the one that gets looked at by the bloggers i read and comment on. I'm not too bothered to get traffic to my more 'personal' blog but i just wondered what someone could do if they did have more than one as this idea of being 'visible' seems more geared towards a person that just has one blog if they use blogger. Is wordpress or other blog engines out there better for this kind of thing?

Advertise both to your followers on twitter, and consider doing a weekly re-cap where you link to your posts on your other blog(s). This can direct the readers of your 'main' blog to your other stuff - they're likely to be interested since they're already interested in what you have to say!

An example of this is a blog that I followed and then found out about her food-specific blog from her twitter. I followed right away, because I liked her other blog so much!

That's an awesome question!  I, too would like to know the answer to this.
I think if you leave comments consistently (more than just a quick one liner), you can drive traffic that way. I've found some really great blogs that I never would have found had it not been for people leaving me comments!
