I'm about to start another blog series (blog posts that are broke up into parts) and I was wondering if I can get your thoughts on it.
I'm sure many of use has done some sort of blog series before, where we split a blog post into 2 or more parts. Most of the time it could be bcuz the post is already too long or other times it's cuz we're out of time writing it.
I've done blog series before both in the collaborative & non-collab aspect. I enjoy it cuz it'll allow me to fully write everything I want. However, sometimes I'm nervous cuz the series could be too long (my longest is 4-non-collab & 6-collab). Either way, I always find the ending very disappointed cuz I'm out of ideas or am trying too hard.
Anyways, I'm about to blog about backpacking trip to Europe. I'm really looking forward to writing it, but I"m also afraid that the series might be too long (16+ posts). I'm also nervous about not getting the "umph" at the end of the series as I'm hoping.
I think you should go for it! I have a blog series on my blog, but it's a fiction piece. By the time it's finished, there will be tons of parts to it, I'm just trying to steer clear of hitting 30, haha!
I think a blog series about backpacking to Europe will be very interesting :)
I personally love blog series, and I would really enjoy a series written about backpacking through Europe.
I'm doing a small series on my blog about the history of my relationship with my husband. It will end up being 4 parts- I just finished and posted part 2- and it is a little scary. I can totally relate to your nerves regarding getting the "umph" at the end of the series.
I wrote out the story of how my Hubs and I met, got engaged & were married within 8 months as a blog series and it was 20 chapters long by the end... and the following of readers on increased as the chapters progressed! As long as you keep your momentum up (and keep it interesting) I think people will follow.
As to the "umph" factor, I think there should be a little "umph" in every post, not just at the end. ;)
I did my first 4-part blog series and immediately saw a bump in traffic. People seem to love reading a longer, episodic story it seems. That 1st 4 part series, and the positive response from the readers on it, encouraged me write another series. My longest one thus far is 9 parts, and people kept coming back for more!
Personally, I like to create a storyboard type chart with all the major events listed on the time line. I then try to create an entire post centered around one major event on that timeline, but often I find myself building up to the event soo much, that I end up with 2 posts per major event. Also, if the story ends on kind of a dull note, I recommend lumping the last major event on the time line with the conclusion of the story.
the funny thing is that i already know what i want to write for each city. this series is kinda like my "Garden State" version of my quarterlife crisis
I'm planning eastern Europe (and eastern Germany) next year. Looking for around May. Already have a place to stay in Vienna, Austria. Planning for a short stay in Frankfurt, Germany and either head south/east from there
