To Procreate or Not to Procreate - The Great Child Debate!

I've been thinking a lot about having children lately ... not, let me restate that ... I've been thinking about the decision to have children lately. There are so many reason NOT to have kids: financial, personal (like family vs. career), time issues, environmental (including overpopulation), biological (ie - passing down inheritable traits), but regardless of all these reasons, sometimes I just really want to have kids!! I'm curious what other people's thoughts on the issue are: are you parent? Why? What brought you to the decision to have children? Have you decided to be childless? Why?

Of course, I have written a blog about this, which you can find here. Yes, yes - the post's title is the same - honestly, I was ridiculously pleased with myself regarding this title ... probably because it rhymes!

Okay fellow bloggers, debate on!

Me too! Love babies SO much. I'd like to have one in the next few years (I'm 25 and the hubs is 29.)

I spent most of my life terrified of labor and birth - but I'm reading this book, which is fabulous and makes it slightly less scary.
I personally see no valid reason to biologically have children. I do hope to adopt. There are millions of children in the world who need a home. The only "benefit" of having your own children would be that genetically they are yours. But I think it's pretty ridiculuous and arrogant to think that your genes are better than someone else's.
I agree, I always thought if I did have children it would be through adoption. But who knows right? There are honestly so many other steps I need to go through before I can even think of having children. But I would like it to happen one day for sure.
I'm the eldest of 4 and I basically raised my younger sisters so I don't feel the need to have children. I always felt that the real desire to have children came after you met and fell in love with someone you wanted to have children with. Not something you thought you wanted to do since you were a little girl. And that hasn't happened yet so it's still up in the air!

I will most likely adopt though. I'm not a fan of something living in me for 9 months and living off of me with no abandon. I see nothing beautiful about that. Lol.

I'm always curious to how guys feel about this, though. Do you think they feel the "need" to have children as well? Or is it something they accept will happen depending on who they date/marry?
