The Bloggers With The Most To Say

This question may have already been asked, but has anyone else noticed how a lot of people seem to be abandoning their blogs? Many attribute it to Twitter, which makes me kind of sad. Is twogging seriously the new blogging?

I'm definitely waiting for the "how to blog" market dies off... but sadly I don't know when that'll be....
Seriously... How to blog and make money? Blog about how to blog, load it with ads, sell e-books and actually publish something...

I don't mind technical and "how to" style blogs... but those are crazy. I mean seriously, how much content can you really create for that???
i could never abandon my blog. i actually use twitter and facebook to promote my blog! turnin it around on em, i am lol
i do it this way too!
and i'm micro-blog something that almost usually appears on my actual blog!
I abandoned my livejournal for my wordpress blog, which I quickly moved to it's own domain.

Personally, I can't see 140 characters EVER replacing my blog.

... On a different note... My friend was telling me about how in Japan there's an increase in novels/stories for mobile devices.. Since people can't always afford their own computer, they've been writing things on their cell phones... I need to ask him for the source for this, because I personally think it's fascinating. I'd love to do a PhD in New Media and Literature/Writing/Rhetoric...
This is actually a really good point. I've noticed too that more mom and twenty something bloggers are focusing more on Twitter or abandoning their blogs for Tumblr. Maybe it's because they can share more, faster than a traditional post, but I'm not sure. Now that Facebook is becoming more like Twitter too, it's getting to be more difficult to have a presence everywhere.

I've had several bloggers that I love abandon their sites or take a "bloggy break" and it's a little sad.
I've noticed this too - I think that sometimes maintaining a site can really burn people out - I abandoned kylabea.com for that reason. I think that the short form sites like tumblr/twitter/FB are attractive in theory, but they're very different platforms with different communities - and you can post as much or as little as you like in a blog too!

Hopefully it will just pare down the people who aren't as engaged and, in cases like mine, maybe having unrewarding experiences with Tumblr and Twitter as stand alone sites will bring people back with more understanding of why the love blogging and our little community!
I combine my Twitter status update in my blog, daily, right at the top of the page. It's a happy marriage - Blogger & Twitter existing together in perfect harmony.

(And "twogging" - twitter plus blogging? Did you make that term up? Because I've never heard of it.)
I'm not sure if more people abandon blogs or if it's that there are millions more blogs than there were a few years ago thus more noticeable. There was always a huge percent of blogs abandoned yearly ,if you ever followed technocrat's state of the biosphere, I haven't seen it in a couple of years butit seemed abandonment was always pretty high. I think those who blog to blog will probably continue to do so and those that blog for attention or some kind of sound bite social contact will probably stat using things like twitter.
Theres only so much that can be said in 140 characters. I feel that blogs may persists. Though there will probably be some sort of hybrid soon.
As far as who's to blame for the decline of blogging-- I blame the Romans. They're always screwing everything up.
I've been so, soooo close to calling it quits on my blog multiple times, but never because of Twitter. I blame my love/hate relationship with Smell The Glove on writer's block, laziness, wanting to remain (semi) anonymous...
I know a lot of bloggers - the less frequent ones - often say that heaps of their post ideas they just put on twitter and only end up being 140character bursts.

But I think it' s better for sharing links, snippets of things and random thoughts. I use twitter almost exclusively for my blog...by which I mean it links to every new blog post I do, and i pretty much follow only personal finance bloggers and often post on money related matters. Twitter is really just for a little section of my life :)
