Hey, folks. Newb to the site, with only 2 years left of being a "20 something", but I've been loving the things I've been reading and blogs I've been stumbling upon via this community. :)
Awkward intro aside... My questions for you all as posted in the title regard video blogs. Whether you watch or make them, what do you love or hate about them, and why?
I've given regular blogging another spin after years of hiatus, and am again trying to find my "voice" and preferred means of communication as it were. I long thought it was with writing, but I can stifle myself far too easily, and just not write at all, no matter how long I'll think about or deconstruct thoughts on a topic in my mind. So with the advent of the wicked inexpensive flip style cameras, I thought I'd give it a spin.
For those experienced in this method of blogging I'd love some constructive criticism or feedback. :)
For me, I definitely put in context of my location, what I'm wearing, my hair, lighting and sound. My biggest issue is that I moved into a new apartment 6 months ago. I'm still trying to find the best place to film. I love my background now, not too busy but not too bland, but I'm still trying to figure out how to limit the echo. I put up curtains and temporary sheets to absorb the sound.
Lighting is my biggest pet peeve. I miss my old lighting arrangement in my previous apartment. The new one isn't as bad, but I'm still having issues to properly light the background through indirect lighting.
I think my problem with a lot of video blogs is the production value. I've never been able to get over the bad sound and camera quality. That said, I think that video on the web is somewhere there's going to be a lot of growth and have been considering giving it a try despite myself. I think it would be more interesting to see magazine-style video podcasts than personal person-to-webcam posts. Who knows, though. The internet has made stranger things popular. (Just look at YTMND)
I haven't video blogged yet. I have done 2 live shows on ustream though, and I have loved it. I am trying to do it every Wednesday night at 9:15 EST. The interactivity is magical. I have call ins, I try to convince my relatives to get twitter, and I have some cat hat action.
I want to post the shows as video blogs after, but I am conflicted about editing them to make them more appealing to those who don't watch it live.
